Yeah because the choice is either between Holt or ****e players, not like it's possible for better players than Holt to have had not as good a season... I don't think Holt is good enough to play for England no matter how good his form is, that's it.
so you literally have no reason whatsoever. genius. if holt is the best of a bad bunch, and personally i believe that to be pretty fair, he's still good enough to go! just cos he's not as good as messi or ronaldo or whoever is irrelevant - he is better than the competition in his own country. he should be called up and there is absolutely no reason anybody has thought of why he shouldn't!!
this is what i don't understand wonky! you are supposed to get selected for your country based on how well you've done for your club. apparently some people don't think thats a good idea and would rather pick the dross that usually does
These people don't realise that the same old formula doesn't work. Gerrards going to be picked even though he's had a poor, injury hit season. Why? Cos he can occasionally score good goals and plays for Liverpool.
i really cannot understand who people think we should take ahead of him? the options have all either had poor seasons or are injured! do they not want to bother with any forwards??? our only top forward can't play initially anyway!! say we took sturridge, defoe and welbeck, none of these three play regularly or have barely scored a goal since christmas. two of them don't even play up front half the time! it makes no sense at all. are we picking them because they have potential? how will that help now???
Supers, you're out of your depth here, Leeds are in a far higher league than we are, there line-up is riddled with England internationals, they have a first-rate owner, an internationally acclaimed manager, it's obvious they're going to know who should and who shouldn't play for England!
I did have a reason, other players are better. When it gets to the Euros is won't make a difference how well Holt's done this season. Because they're better players who probably would do a better job. The last striker to be picked based purely on form was Kevin Davies and that was a disaster.
But other players aren't better. Also davies wasn't second highest english goalscorer when he was picked.
who is better? name them! welbeck has been crap, sturridge has been crap, defoe has been crap, crouch (bar one goal) has been crap, carroll has been crap, holt has been, oh yes, thats right, excellent all season. its people like you who will moan when england play crap and show a distinct lack of commitment and effort. maybe if they pick players like holt, graham, britton, dyer etc they might see an improvement because not only are these players good enough, they haven't been tarnished by the total failure of previous england regimes! of course, none will get selected cos they don't fit the image of an england player and yet again thats why they'll fail. and kevin davies played 7 minutes for england - lots of time to assess his talents and lets be honest, holt is a far more accomplished player than he ever has been. if you pick the players who give england the best chance of getting through their group, holt goes. or pick sturridge and defoe and watch as they fail again because they have no different options to pick from.
in fact, thinking about it, if you are comparing holt to davies there is no point having a conversation - you obviously know nothing about holt
I agree with this, but come on, Davies was on for about 20 minutes! To use this, though, as an argument against playing Holt is laughable.
Davies is an established Premier League player who was picked on form. Holt is riding a wave of confidence into his first ever season in the PL, he's performing above his level IMO.
Rooney was an incredible young talent who burst on to the scene at 16, Holt is a 31 year old who has reached his peak.
Now you're just picking at straws. Age doesn't make a difference. If he can score at 31 then he's good enough. These young twenty something's aren't doing anything.
And how do you know that he won't raise his game higher playing for his country? God knows the others who 'expect' to walk in to the team don't or can't raise their game enough.
I understand your points, but I just don't think Holt has the quality needed. I have no doubts about his determination or form, but class wins out in the end in my opinion.
