Really? In form and available? Of whom do you speak? and your statement flies in the facts posted previously

Form has nothing to do with it, based on ability alone, Welbeck, Sturridge, Defoe and Bent are all better, I'd personally argue Graham too but that's marginal.

so form has nothing to do with it <doh>

its that kind of attitude which is precisely why england NEVER produces any kind of FORM in tournaments! holt is a better player than defoe and bent but they are both great finishers. defoe does literally nothing throughout a match and neither does bent! bent is injured, sturridge has been awful since christmas, welbeck, barring last weekend, has been next to useless all season long and i've been calling for graham to get called up as much as holt because they both DESERVE to be picked.

Form goes out of the window in a tournament. Holt is a useful striker but put him up against a decent defence and he's found out very quickly.

Are there no decent defences in the Premier League?<doh> How about Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton - do they not have decent defences? If you are going to make sweeping generalisations like "put him up against a decent defence and he's found out very quickly" at least think about what you're saying.

    13 goals in the League.<ok>

There's only one world class defence in the PL this year, Man City's, and he hardly touched the ball against them. The only people who think Holt is a serious prospect for the Euro's are Norwich fans.

that is probably the worst argument you could have made! he has scored against manchester united, liverpool, chelsea, everton, newcastle and many more this season. if they haven't got top defences i don't know who has! in fact, their defences are better than most at international level. ask players like rio ferdinand and john terry who they've had the most problems against this season and i would expect holt to feature very high up that list. england actually lessen their chances by not taking holt - he doesn't have to start matches, stick him on with 20 minutes to go and watch things happen in england's favour. he's a nightmare to defend against - surely thats what we want!

Have a look at the defences going to the euros this summer, they really are no better. They can hardly be called world class.

use this as an example. toto schillachi of italy had never played an international match before italia90. he was on fire in italy but only for that one season leading up to the tournament - he scored 6 goals and they nearly won the competition. he barely ever played for them again after that. he was picked because he was on form and they reaped the rewards. its numpties who think that players should be picked on reputation rather than form that mean england never do well in tournaments. alf ramsey picked players on form... need i say more?

Alf Ramsey caused a National outcry when he picked Geoff Hurst over Jimmy Greaves, simply on current form! Now, tell me again, who got a hat-trick in the final???

sadly dave, it does appear that its all down to which club you play for or how much you cost which determines who gets picked these days. i'm fully expecting a call up for andy carroll based on him a couple of decent games rather than a whole season of them!

The fact that he plays for Liverpool should be more than enough to get him a call up. He shouldn't have to rely on a couple of decent games <tonguewellandtrulyincheek>

That's a superb example Supers, I was actually thinking about Schillachi last week and was going to post something about the potential comparison between the two, you beat me to it <ok>

It was hard trying to argue against your stone cold FACTS when I was in fact (FACT) in 2 hours of lectures from 2.
