FA has suspended the usual teams' hand-shake for the weekend's game between Chelsea and QPR, because of the John Terry - Anton Ferdinand situation.

    It's that man again.......<whistle>

It's a pointless little ritual anyway.

I don't know who is the more moronic; the authorities for inventing (and then postponing when it doesn't work) the ridiculous ritual, or the overgrown school children who actually do the handshaking.

    I hope Chelsea hump QPR.

Funny seeing Ferdinand trying to take some sorta moral high ground after being interviewed by the police after one of his nights out with Diouf.

Yeah, maybe - but Terry is just such an oaf + twat.

It says a lot about the state of the England national side that he was ever captain.

Agree it is a stupid routine anyway. "fair play" is long gone. However, it would be good to see ferdinand pull his hand away at the last minute and put his younger out at terry.

If he was a City player, you'd give him 100% of your support.

He's not actually taking the moral high ground, his lawyers told him not to shake his hand in case it prejudiced the case against Terry.

So the whole charade would appear to be executed in order to keep embarrassing images (of a non-handshake/snub) out of the media?

Football in this country was ruined as a significant social drug for the working class the day Sky flooded it with money.

From that day on EVERYTHING that happens, happens through greed. The respect campaign is no different.

In a cynical attempt to improve the tarnished image of the game thereby maintaining it as a commercial vehicle for it's sponsors, the propaganda merchants invented the charade of the "Respect Campaign".

There is no respect in football, only greed.

If you ever wanted a clearer example of this look at Fabrice Muamba. All the sickening posturing of our wonderful "Football Family" that produced some sort of perverted beatification has been brought crashing to it's inevitable fall by the news that good old Fabrice has sold his story to a national red top. Glad I reserved my prayers for those anonymous boys and girls coming back from Afghanistan without limbs or in body bags.

Not at all. My opinion is that if we were not fighting these radical islamists in Afghanistan we would be fighting them on the streets of Britain and that our troops are buying our safety with their lives. Armed forces are, by the very nature of what they are there to do, in danger of their lives, but I have utmost respect and gratitude for what they are sacrificing.

I am sure by your post you disagree, which is fine, but this is a different subject to that of the thread.

I did. That was connected to the respect campaign because my point was that I don't class any respect for footballers at anywhere near the same level as I do our armed forces. My comment about the point of this thread was not do deflect it into a debate on whether our forces should be in Afghanistan or not. If you want a debate on that I am happy to partake but perhaps it should be on a new thread.

Now why has Anton Ferdinand hired lawyers to advise him on what to do with regards a case where he's just a witness? (The case coming about because someone watching on telly complained to police about it)
