You voted for your players, and now I have counted the votes and these are your results! Young Player: James Ward-Prowse is a name all saints fans are familar with at the tender age of just 17. Making his debut at Crystal Palace in October, he went on to score a stunning goal against Coventry in a very mature and exciting performance. A real buzz around James, certainly going to be a star of our Premier League midfield! Honourable mentions to Ben Reeves, Aaron Martin, Luke Shaw & Calum Chambers Most Improved: Last year, Frazer Richardson could barely get into the team, following a serious injury in Pre-Season meaning he was behind Danny Butterfield for most of the season. Despite this, Frazer came back stronger to become a real threat down the right, fastly becoming one of our key players with his dangerous crosses a key part of our rise up the table. Other mentions to Dean Hammond, Rickie Lambert, Aaron Martin & Morgan Schneiderlin. Signing: Jos Who? What a last ditch signing. Very desperate move, many Saints fans said when Jos Hooiveld signed in August. Jos has gone on to turn all the doubters around, and become our best CB, even pushing the outstanding Jose Fonte into the shadows. It's a wonder how Hooiveld couldn't play for Celtic. Goal: Tadanari Lee v Derby A first (and currently only) goal for our Japanese star, it was a stunning strike from the edge of the area and the whole place erupted as the ball hit the back of the net. Hopefully the first of many. Other mentions go to David Connolly v Boro, Dean Hammond v Leeds, Morgan Schneiderlin v Forest, Rickie Lambert v Watford and Rickie Lambert v Palace. Game: The South Coast Derby had a stunning atmosphere. Southampton 2-2 Portsmouth although gave us a gut wrenching last minute equaliser, it was an exciting game and the atmosphere was second to none, it's a shame we won't be playing them again for a while. Other nominations include 3-0 v Boro, 3-2 v Milwall, 3-2 v Forest, 3-1 v Leeds, 1-0 v W Ham, 5-2 v Ipswich and 4-1 v Birmingham. Player of the Season 3rd place: Adam Lallana: His tricks terrorising Championship defences, certainly a real threat down the left hand side with most full backs unable to cope with him 2nd Place: Jos Hooiveld: Outstanding at the back, a real rock and certainly very difficult to beat him in the air. Also scored some very important goals that could see us up 1st Place: Rickie Lambert: Stunning season from the Championship Player of the Year. Do I really need to say why?
Well done SaintsFan4Life. I amazed there was no special mention for Dan Harding, or a special award for "Most underrated, undervalued, blonde haired, SaintsFan4Life's favourite, replacement left back award".
That would go to Luke Shaw anyway Shame we couldn't get real trophies made and sent down to Staplewood!
You said about wishing we had a trophy (not sure if its a joke or not but doesnt matter) but maybe tweet whoever has Twitter? Just an idea
Well it was a joke, but if we had enough interest I'll take a shot in the dark and see if we can get something arranged! Of course I wouldn't be able to do the whole thing personally due to Uni, but something to talk about I guess!
