Kossy has had an immense first season in the Premier League imo. People (mostly the media) have been criticizing him throughout the season for some unknown reason, but he's been one of our best players this season. He had a tough start to the season, getting sent off on his debut and making a few silly mistakes. But ever since then, he's been absolutely superb. Considering this is only his first season in the Prem, I think he'll be much better next season. I honestly believe he'll be one of the best CBs in the league soon. He's shown great fighting spirit and desire this season, and despite what the media are saying, I get the feeling that most of my fellow Gooners are also impressed with him. Like I said above, he's a fighter and he has great desire. We need more players like him. But his character isn't the only good thing about him. He's also a fantastic defender. He can pass the ball as well as any defender in the league, he can head the ball, he can tackle and his positional play is great. I think people need to stop listening to the media and watch him play. He gets so much unnecessary criticism. I think he's going to be a first choice CB next season. Vermaelen and Djourou will have to fight it out to see who plays alongside him. Great, great player.
Immense no. A decent season, good if you take in to account this is his first in English football. I think he has the potential to be very good as he is quick, his tackling in 1 on 1 situations is phenomenal and he is excellent on the ball for a defender. However he is a bit weak, his decision making needs work on, not that great in the air and prone to moments of panic. As I said, I think he will become a top defender once he irons out these flaws but I would still take Vermaelen and Djourour over him as our first choice players. I don't think he is as good as you are making out but I view him as a good buy.
He's done hardly anything wrong the whole season. Other than two mistakes at the start of the season, and a miscommunication in the CC final, he's been immense. Vidic, Terry, etc, have all made more mistakes than Kossy this season.
He has had a very good season, especially as it's his first in the Prem. I don't think the media have been giving him a hard time particularly - overall our defence hasn't been up to the required standard and this is the area that the media have rightly pointed out as our weakness, but I don't think they've singled out Koscielny. Hopefully next season Vermaelen will be back and form a rock solid pairing with Koscielny
You can't just sweep his mistakes under the carpet, that **** up in the CC was the single most important mistake by an arsenal player since Lehmann in the 2006. And for the record I think Vidic has had a much better season than him.
Do you remember at the start of the season, when Vidic was being paired with lots of different CBs? He was getting terrorised every game. The Everton, Fulham and Villa games in particular. He made more mistakes in those 3 games than Kossy has made all season. People are having a go at Kossy for giving away penalties, getting booked, getting sent off etc. But that's part of being a defender isn't it?
He is a great defender and has said himself he needs to bulk up to get better strength and in the air etc, but his 1 on 1 tackling is immense 100% tackling rate for a whole year before he joined us, and up until i think the spurs game also had 100% in england! with a constant partner of Djourou or Tommy V and some more strength and experience he'll show his class
