There is good reason why Mullins chickens out of taking on BB every year, he knows that BB would be to strong for Quevega
Quevega was absolutely brilliant today. She made Voler La Vedette look ordinary. She quickens so well and just left VLV for dead. However, she has no chance of beating Big Buck's.
I remember Big Bucks being 6/1 when he faced Punchestowns in his first World Hurdle and he had just beaten Punchestowns in the Cleeve so he must have been a certainty to place in the World Hurdle on that form, Punchestowns went off the 10/11 favourite and was beaten by Big Bucks at an amazing 6/1 (When you look at it now anyway) The same for Grands Crus he went off at 7/2 when he faced Big Bucks in the World Hurdle last year and that forecast of Big Bucks/Grands Crus must have been one of the biggest bankers of the week. I don't think its necessarily the case to presume she'd be shorter
She would run him as close as Voler La Vedette did, as close as Grands Crus did, as close as Punchestowns did, as close as any other horse has . . . .
I honestly think she would have a good chance of beating BB with the allowance if the race was run to suit.
I think this is a bit like the Frankel/Black Caviar debate...it ain't gonna happen...good fun to hear peoples opinions though.
Big Bucks would do like He as to all before Quevega. She races in a Mickey Mouse race every year at Cheltenham if Willie Mullins thought he had a chance of beating Big Bucks do you not believe they would have tried by now?
I backed Big Bucks that day so I remember very well. I'm surprised you're comparing Grands Crus to Quevega though. They bare almost no comparison in my eyes. One is a multiple grade one winner over 3m who's won at four consecutive Cheltenham festivals, the other is Grands Crus. You might also be confusing bookmakers with charities...
