I know this is a bit premature, but has anyone heard of a possible team tour to celebrate should we go up Saturday ?...........
I wouldn't have thought there will be a tour. If Saints had managed to become Champions, then almost certainly. I can't see Cortese celebrating a second best. He might be talked into allowing it, but I doubt it.
Why would you want to celebrate coming second ffs? We were in a prime position, and we failed. Looking back at it we lost the title, Reading didn't win it. We will however get promotion this weekend.
Calm down was only asking a question, and the reason I asked is Reading announced they would have a tour long before they sealed the title, they announced it as it is a remarkable achievement sealing promotion whether the league is won, or via second or by winning the play offs, each case is a valid reason to celebrate with team and show our appreciation for the effort of the players this season. I will not be hammering them for "failing" as you put it. Someone said to me they thought there was going to be one this sunday if we sealed it so just thought I would ask if anyone else had heard this as I have heard nowt.
well if you lot can't see the achievement of winning back to back promotions to get back into the premier league, and don't think that is worth celebrating.....I can't help wonder why you are interested in the result on saturday???
Here here Jenny thank you, I for one would be there celebrating and showing my appreciation of a stunning season, I couldnt care how we got up as long as we do, and to finish second in our first season is a tremendous achievement.
I wish you had waited until after the match to decide whether to post this. I'm sure it won't have an impact on the game, but if the worst does happen...this thread will likely take a battering from others laughing at our premature-ness... If we do get that 2nd promotion spot, I'd like there to be some kind of chance for the fans to show their appreciation for the massive effort that has gone into this year from the team, management and coaches etc. It's been an unbelievable season.
Fair enough, Cortese et al would have to be extremely confident to prepare a celebration the day after the Big game! But, I do hope you are right saintern!! Still haven't decided whether I will watch the game yet...it might be too much for my already tattered nerves!
Now that would be superb!!!!!! Imagine the route..... Starting at St Marys, all through town and bursledon and finishing at Fratton Park ha ha ha
I agree, I am getting twitchy and just want the game to start, as I am sure the players do!!! Once they cross the white line I am sure they will get the job done
Jesus Christ if you think finishing 2nd in our first season back in the Championship is a failure, god knows what you think finishing 3rd will be. The end of the world, probably. Reading deserve the title on their form since January.
Can't see there being one. Especially after the last few weeks results. If we had risen up out of nowhere possibly but coming second best isn't anything to shot about after where we were in march/early april.
Instead we have remained in the top 2 for the entire season.... possibly a much Bigger achievement I would say. Not many teams can probably say they have done that and seen the job through......
have to say strongly disagree with comment that coming 2nd means nothing to shout about. quite the contrary... Reading = champioship final play offs last season west ham = premier league last season southampton = league 1 last season. the fact we're going into our last game knowing a win will guarantee promotion is more than anyone would have believed back in august. you cant just say we were leading the pack and we've blown it. we're punching well above what was expected. its like you still think we have some divine right to be in the top flight. we dont, and we have to fight for it which the team is doing.
Agreed Jonny, we have done superbly this season. I bet Brum or Hammers would swap with us tomorrow!!!!!
The majority of our squad have come up from League 1. Winning back-to-back promotions will be a tremendous achievement well worthy of celebration and a tour of the city. First or second? Quite frankly I don't care - if we go up the position is irrelevant.
