LATEST SCORE is already......Chelsea 4 Bayern Munich 3 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ That refers to the number of first team players each club will have missing as things stand now due to suspensions. Nobody would argue that John Terry deserves to miss the final for what he did nor anyone daft enough to get a "red card" But should players who have simply amassed 2 yellows from previous games be denied the chance to play in the biggest game on the planet apart from a World Cup Final ? Many bookings are a touch harsh these days. so IMO, no they should not be banned from playing in the final. Thoughts anyone......... For the record the players banned are John Terry - Rameires - Raul Mereiles - Branislav Ivanovic for Chelsea and Holger Badstuber - Luiz Gustavo - David Alaba for Bayern Munich. All 7 have played at least 95% of there clubs CL games this season. over to you folks..........
Have to say I agree, very harsh on those players who've got 2 yellows. 2 yellows! 'Kin 'ell. Plus I think a lot of the Euro refs are incredibly card happy.
Ala transfer rumours....touche. Actually its 3 weeks and 2 days away now. The suspensions are already big news now and the game will not go away Regardless of what you think OLM.
You can post anything you like, I'm sure discussing seven suspensions for three weeks will be most entertaining.
I dont understand the suspension system for a sending off. How is it fair to weaken a team for a future game for something they did in one previous game? How can it be that Bayern benefit from something stupid that John Terry did against Barca? The whole system is frankly bonkers and I have no idea how it was ever considered a good idea. The sending off is punishment enough and probably the only fair solution would be for a ban the next time those 2 teams ever meet again.
The booking thing makes sense to me but only if the ref has implemented common sense. If it's two bad tackles that could have caused injury or two incidents of blatant professional cheating (a good example of this is the booking Messi got against Chelsea the other night for pulling Lampard back as he was on a break) then yes ban them for the final, they shouldn't have cheated/acted dangerously if the final mattered to them. But if it's two bookings for celebrating a goal or for a totally inoccuous tackle in the middle of the park like you see in the English league then yes it's very harsh.
I know what you're saying but there isn't really a better way of doing it is there? It's just a punishment for the guilty players. I still haven't seen the Terry tackle but if it was really dangerous then he doesn't deserve to play in the final. Same with the other 6 players if the cards were all legitimate.
I appreciate that abacus is a big word for you Tickler but I thought you'd be able to spell it right. ^ I was trying to be as pedantic as you there but I already hate myself for it. I just don't see why, if someone posted "There's 24 hours to go" you'd feel the need to post "Well actually, it's 23 hours and 58 minutes." I used to do that to piss my parents off when I was about 6-7 years old... the fact that you're still doing it now is actually painful.
I understand your point but without suspension what deterrent is there to stop players taking one for the team? Using Torres' goal on Tuesday as an example, if that goal was crucial as to who went through to the final there would be nothing to stop the Barca keeper racing out of his area and doing a "Harald Schumacher" on him. He's prevented an almost certain goal which sees his team go through to the final. He does get sent off, but is available for the final because there is no suspension. The only way that they made it to the final was due to the cheating of the keeper, so why should the keeper get to play in the final? Bit of an extreme example I know but you get the picture.
Terry's 'tackle' was a quick knee in the other players back when he hoped no-one was looking - stupid or what? And yes his suspension does punish the whole team and not just him, but what's the alternative? At this stage of his career I doubt he's capable of realising that it's not a great thing to do........... and he never seems like the sharpest knife in the box anyway, but again what sanction Do they use? Fine a man who's a multi millionaire? He says he's 'gutted' well, tough t*t
