Already applied, as well as the other 3-4 on jobseekers direct site, problem is Billingham is just out of reach for me, I can probably make Stockton at a push, but a comfortable limit (where i can get there in time at least without worry every morning)will be Middlesbrough/Redcar area.
If you have a specialised trade move over here. When I applied for jobs there were so many to chose from, and the pay is brilliant. I've been speaking to people back home and it seems like a bad period to find work. I really hope you find a job soon.
Any call for toolroom work over your way bud? You know, lathe, milling, surface grinding etc.? Can work to close tolerances, say +/- 2 thou. Work in imperial or metric. Only trouble is, I'm now 45 & still have very young kids.
the main thing they look for are electricians, plumber, construction and mining. over here you would earn about $10,000+ a month for mining. the best thing to do is go on the emigration sites, they give you all the information. you should be able to do a free assessment to see if your eligible to emigrate here. I would high recomend Australia. Its a little more expensive but the quality of life is better. Unfortunately my Visa ends in a year so have to come back. Hoping I get another Visa or meet a lass here (makes it easier to emigrate).

Honestly Steve, I sincerely hope that you find a job, and i wasn't getting at yu personally but when people go on about having a wife and kids to support, thats self inflicted, nobody forces you to have kids and it beats me why we should pay family allowance, if you can't afford kids you shouldn't have them, simple as that. Best of luck anyway, and just for your info, the way things are in western Australia at the moment , its just a matter of turning up, skilled or unskilled and they'll snaffle you up, and as for police records, its not a requirement now so anyone should be OK.
That might just be Western Australia. In Queensland the police checks were pretty over the top, as well as the references. But I agree that anybody could come over and you would get a job... what I meant though is to actually get into Australia you would have to have a skill - otherwise get a sponsor which is hard to come across. AND Syd the lasses over here are pretty much like that! seriously they put UK lasses to shame ha!
No mate, I meant that you don't actually need a police record now to get in there, its not a requirement any more, mind you , you wouldn't think so looking at the price of a pint, its daylight robbery.
haha that is true. what is the price where you are.. prices here can range from $5-$12 depending on make, time and bar. generally though about $7 a pint which is not bad really.
I lived there for 20 years and recently I was over there working before I retired and I went into what used to be my local and it was $9.50 for a pint? The airport is always expensive but it was $9 in there just for a stubbie, ridiculous, and they wonder why everyone just buys the slabs at the bottle shop and socializes at home. As you say, it is expensive but the high wages compensate for it, the stewardesses on the boat I was working on are on $150,000 a year for making beds and tidying the cabins, so everything is relative, to buy a decent house will cost you 0.5 million dollars now. Anyway, my time in the penal colony is over and I'm back in Sunderland, its a **** hole we know, but I like it.
Yeah its all relative TBH. Saying that though I'm paying $125 a week for an apartment in Brisbane, the complex has a gym, pool, spa and jacuzzi. I heard the West is more though. I think when I go back to Sunderland I won't to be able to adjust - its so different here. Only thing I miss is family, friends, watching the matches and playing Sunday league football. The actual place I don't miss.
I live in WA and am involved in the industry which is in dire need of a workforce. You dont even need to have a skill... you just need to be willing to go out and do a job and not bitch about it (unless you're involved in the MUA or some ****e like that). On the offshore oilrigs you could be a roustabout, maintenance roustie, ruffneck - all without qualifications, and you can be thick as **** (so long as you are safe). In the mines they need dump truck drivers, and forklift drivers, who i've heard can make $120,000 a year (roughly 77k pounds). You can get rosters like 3/3, although 4/4 seems the norm offshore. Miners work weird shifts, like 3/1 or 8 days on, 6 off and stuff like that. If you were persistent they would prob fly you over here to work and fly you back. As Blind said, the Gorgon project is massive. Ive been involved with it at one stage, and am involved in another that is going to eclipse even that, Chevron's Wheatstone. That will last about 10 years and is $29billion+ investment. And there are loads of other little projects. I'm only saying all of this to give an example of the amount of work out here. If you were persistent enough, and looked in the right spots, and were willing to come down here away from the family every 4 weeks, then you would have guaranteed work for a long time. If you want more info, PM me and ill try to answer any questions you have!
With this though don't you have to apply for a Visa and stuff? Because you can't just walk into Australia. I have been looking for about 2 yrs for a permanent way to get in. I know you would need to get sponsored by a company to get in if you can't get through on a normal Visa. I can only live here for a yr, and a 2nd yr if a do farming etc. What is the best way to get in permanent?
