BlackcatSteve from another thread, a good guy. Do you know anyone looking Anyone who can help This is Steve
There's a recruitment freeze where I work, and as he stated, it would be too far to travel to Sunderland without a car...
Cheers (i think) just hope it doesnt turn into a tash lazy bastard get a job type thread, like tashes did. Like i said in the other thread, I may be starting voluntary admin work soon if the course I am on can get me in, and hopefully that will be the foot in the door I need, yes voluntary = no extra money which is a bummer, but its a foot in the door, and shows willing. (I hope).
The only time I have ever been unemployed was for a short while in the mid 1980's, and like you are contemplating doing now, I took on a job for no money, making myself useful in a factory making glass ornaments, and learning the trade in my spare time. After a couple of months I had learnt enough to be placed on the payroll, and went on to become a fully fledged lampworker/glassblower... So you go for it mate; I'm sure it will help..
Excellent move! In doing this, you show you are hard working and willing to put yourself on the line. I wish you well in this and hope it turns out to be as good as it appears
I nearly replied to the other thread about this. I had typed in that if I had a job I would have given it to Steve! But thought it sounded a bit soft so deleted it again. My only advice, and I know its really expensive these days, is that learning to drive will open up more options for places to look for work as well as types of jobs. In any event don't give up and I am sure you will find something soon. Best of luck.
Sorry mate , wish I could help. Having been there myself , I will say don't give up hope. It's not easy at times but try to keep your chin up. Good luck.
No, its fine, with tash it was everytime he posted on here, he got bombarded with the ****e, felt sorry for the lad actually (even though it was tash). meh just leave it. will prob die sooner rather than later anyway.
Steve mate, If you were here I'd try to get you sorted. Your far to smart for it to be long term. Good Luck & Best Wishes.
Hope the volunteering helps mate. I remember when I was on the dole about 14 years ago I decided to volunteer with the countryside rangers. Got me out the house doing something constructive and thought it would look good on my CV. So was a little shocked down at the dole office when some humourless bint said she would stop my benefit as I should be spending my time looking for work not volunteering! Needless to say I kept volunteering but kept quiet about it.
Why is it that all these people who can't find a job all want the same thing, a soft job in IT or Admin, close to home? Why don't you waken up, there is nothing left in the N.E. of England any more since the heavy industry shut down, and to get decent job and a decent living you must be prepared to leave your mams apron strings and move into the big wide world. Example - there is a project starting now in N.W. Australia called the Gorgon Project, they reckon it will go on for about 5 years , 80 billion dollar investment, they are short of 3000 construction workers and the lazy Aussies are kicking up because the companies want to bring in Philipinos because they will work for a living, also they are fast tracking American Plumbers and Leckys to comply with local regulations, and subsidizing them to go and live there. - I'm sure they would rather employ Brits because of the language and cultural similarities but the Brits want to stay at home and moan about the recession, what recession?, get off your arse and look further afield. Believe me, if the Aussies can do it , then anybody can. I'm sure theres other similar projects going on elsewhere in the world i.e Dubai, theres 60% of all the cranes in the world in Dubai, so something must be happening certainly a lot more than whats happening on the Vaux Brewery site . Rant over - best of luck finding a job that suits you mate. I know its easy for me to preach because I've just retired after working in every **** hole in every corner of the world for years after I saw the writing on the wall years ago, but believe me, theres more to life than staying in Sunderland and signing on every fortnight..
well good to see you read the story before giving your full support. Steve does not live with his ma and her apron strings, is not sitting on his arse, has explained why he cant move and does not live in Sunderland, apart from that, spot on.
good luck steve! and if any of you guys in austrailia or dubai or where ever know any companys looking for coded welders give me a shout please
Actually I will answer it. tbh i am not sure if he was getting directly at me or at the general populous, but I knew someone would do it so meh. Why is it that all these people who can't find a job all want the same thing, a soft job in IT or Admin, close to home? Believe it or not, its all I know, D.I.Y and I just dont mix at all, and i will tell you why further down, but I love IT, and i have already moved 80 miles from my comfort zone, just the wife wont move from hers, and I am sorry but I would love to see anyone on £12,000-£16,000 support yourself with rent, and your wife and 4 kids with another rent (£25,000-£40,000 yes, bog standard admin wage, no) Why don't you waken up, there is nothing left in the N.E. of England any more since the heavy industry shut down, and to get decent job and a decent living you must be prepared to leave your mams apron strings and move into the big wide world. as above. tbh its my wife that wont leave her mams not me that wont leave mine. Fantastic, if you have Experience/Qualifications in those fields, I am colour blind, so i couldnt be an electrition even if i wanted to be. I have looked at Australia before as i would love to live there, you need qualifications coming out of your arse to get in. Rant over - best of luck finding a job that suits you mate. cheers. I know its easy for me to preach because I've just retired after working in every **** hole in every corner of the world for years after I saw the writing on the wall years ago, but believe me, theres more to life than staying in Sunderland and signing on every fortnight.. I totally agree, If i was single then I wouldnt be down here, but I would not have anything holding me back, I also cant drive, Used to be epileptic and my eyes are crap, and tbh I cant afford £100 to get glasses, or learn to drive anyway until I get a job. So my catchment area is smaller than those that can. Most also have Jobs in a 10 mile radius, where i live you have a half moon radius to the East North West, South you have 50 miles of North York Moores ah well whatever it will come good eventually, and yes none of this is a sob story, I know there is only 1 person that can get me a job and thats ME, no ****er else will.
