21 out of 24 Championship clubs voted in favour of the new rules, which are modelled on Uefa's financial fair play regulations. The plans curb Football League debt by limiting investment from owners and total spending. From the 2014-15 season, clubs who record total losses of over £6m will receive either a transfer embargo or a fine that could run into the millions.

West Ham better be back in the PL by then!

Probably end up with lots of boringly average teams who have their best players stolen because they won't get enough pay in the Championship.

Yeah, clubs need restricting but also protecting.

It won't be any different to now, after a re-settle. Besides, the PL will have to work under FFP as well. In fact, I believe Cortese is depending upon it. FFP is actually an indirect salary cap. It preaches, live within your means, which ultimately means that player's stupid wages will level off - and a good thing too.

Apparently QPR made a loss of 25.4 million in their promotion season! Just shows how well we have done to be on the verge of promotion and not spend stupid money on players, and more importantly, wages, which would have been the main reason for QPR's 25.4million loss.

This FL measure actually sounds above and beyond what UEFA are doing. The UEFA ruling is simply that a team can't spend more than 100% of turnover on just wages. Only Man City and Chelsea are doing anything like that because they have the money and their funding is fuelled by vanity rather than any sort of sense. Most owners, even in the PL, would bankrupt themselves with that sort of wage bill. The teams most at risk are the teams fighting relegation from the PL with small fan bases that rely on TV money to support hefty wage bills. The UEFA ruling does nothing to protect them. All it does is stop a few multi-billionaires from spunking quite so much money if they don't find a loophole, which will be something ridiculously simple like sponsoring the stadium. Its a PR stunt and no more. They won't actually make rules at least until clubs set the example because football is a free market.

The FL seems like a more idealistic organisation and I applaud it for introducing some proper rules that make football more sustainable.

I wouldn't be so sure. PL clubs can only name a 25 man squad each season remember, so it's not like they'll all have the capacity to stock up on the Championship players who all want to depart.

Where will they go? They won't all get into the premier league squads.

I am not sure, it will only be the pick of the crop, and Premier teams will need more home grown players too.

It is irrelevant to Pompey, they won't be in the Championship.

But is it not the whole of the football league that this effects? Therefore the whole of the football league will vote. They also said 3 championship teams, of which Portsmouth currently are.

Don't understand why we voted against? I guess if we aren't promoted Cortese wants the option to splash out but considering the rules won't come in until 2014 surely he is confident we'll be out of there before then at least?
