I have always said that the team who was unfazed by their possession and passing will get a result against them. It would have been suicidal to Try to outplay them. Barcelona was so lacking in flair and imagination and was found out. Chelsea proved me right. I am really happy for them. Pure theatre. The most remarkable match I have ever seen and I don't even like Chelsea. Their best night ever!
Congrats to Chelsea, awesome defensive display, was on the edge of my seat the entire second half! I have never cheered for a Torres goal before, but I screamed like a little girl when he scored! Got to love Gary Neville's commentary though for the goal! Did you guys hear it? I was very disappointed with Barca's lack of a plan B though, how can you try the same thing for 45 MINUTES and not try something different?! How many times was Alves free on the right, and EVERY time he just passed it back to the edge of the box, not once did he try to get to the byline and put a hard low cross in, or cross into the box? And virtually no long shots from outside the box? Pathetic. Fair play to Chelsea, great performance, pity about all the banned players though (the 3 yellow cards, Terry was a disgrace and should not play again this season as punishment).
Good points. They may be the best team in the world but when they lack any alternatives this really is a significant weakness. Their pretty passing in front of a packed defense in the end was just that: pretty passing with no end point. I am glad all the adulation re Barcelona is being put into perspective. Real and Chelsea have shown that 72 % even 80% of possession means sod all if the other team's 10-20% is more dangerous and effective and produces goals....
Barca seem to think crossing is beneath them or something. Alves was shocking. Had so many chances to put in dangerous balls into our 6 yard and constantly elected to pass backwards. Maybe the Barca hype will finally be put into context. Xavi don't look the player he has been in the past either.
Getting older is permenant too, Xavi isn't young. He's still a very good player mind, but he's not been as effective this season.
