The word deserved may be incorrect, as many believe you only deserve to win if you take your chances but on the balance of play we could/should have got 20 extra points quite easily. I will list games where we had more shots than our opponents but still got a disappointing result

    Liverpool 0 (24) - Stoke 1(3)(shots in brackets)
    Liverpool 1 (15) - MUFC 1(11)
    Liverpool 1 (29) - Norwich 1 (12)
    Liverpool 0 (25)- Swansea 0 (12)
    Liverpool 1 (17) - MCFC 1 (7)
    Liverpool 1 (27) - Blackburn 1 (6)
    Liverpool 0 (15) - Stoke 0 (3)
    Liverpool 0 (17) - Spurs 0 (10)
    Liverpool 1 (12) - Arsenal 2 (10)
    Liverpool 0 (10) - Sunderland 1 (7)
    Liverpool 2 (19) - QPR 3 (11)
    Liverpool 1 (19) - Wigan 2 (8)
    Liverpool 1 (24) - Villa 1 (5)
    Liverpool 0 (30) - WBA 1 (9)

If we got 20 extra points we would be 3rd on 66 points, maybe 20 is too much to expect from just gaining adequate finishers but i think it shows we are in a decent position squad wise and that signing good finishers is necessary, and could spell champions league football next season.

I think if we had someone who could score goals then we could have been at least 10-14 points better off.

In total we had 283 chances in those games, the others had 114.

    We had a 3% conversion rate!!!!!!!!!3%

    3%

Opposition had an average of 13% conversion rate......If we could get our conversion rate to that of the opposition (which has to be presumed about average)

We would have scored 39 goals and essentially won every game.

We are playing good football and we just have to be as good at finishing as everyone else to be successful.....

    Currently our finishing is ****e!!

I would love to see the conversion rate per player.......Think it would result in us having a front line of Maxi and Seb

Arsenal had 10 shots against us!? I can remember about 3. The other 6 or 7 must have been long distance punts.

It's an important point that is lost in the hysteria.

At the end of the day Kenny is clearly setting his team up well most of the time, there's not too much he can do about bad luck and players losing their composure other than that he should probably play Maxi more often. Also the effect of 2 cup runs shouldn't be underestimated.

We all laugh at Chelsea's revolving door policy when it comes to managers but then some of our fans forget and want the same. It's a testing season but there's an outside chance now even if we'd have gotten 4th we wouldn't have gotten CL football, and if no CL football it doesn't count for **** where we come outside the top 4.

this has always been my angle on our position.

We came up short 60 goals on chances created home and away with a 20% strike rate home and away.

We'd be challenging with on form strikers this season. But we haven't got in form strikers so.. Balls!

Skrtel must have a better conversion rate than most <laugh> it really doesa make me wonder yet again how Maxi hasn't had more game time this year.

I think it's because Maxi has a tendancy to go missing in games. However, he is one of those players who can do nothing for 89 minutes but then score a goal.

Very true. A bluenose in work asked me quite genuinely if we were going to sack kenny this season citing poor football and the overall team not being good enough as a reason.

As you can imagine i nearly spat my coffee over him, I already knew he is a "MOTD and tabloid" kind of fan but surely even fans like that can see that we have generally played well enough to win a lot more games.

I think that you are wrong. There appears to be very few commentators or opposing fans who are even prepared to consider the quality of some of the football that we have played this season.

The commentators I understand because they tend to talk bollox anyway and follow the printed media line of being anti liverpool.

Real football fans can surely see beyond that though and use their eyes for evidence..

Its alright, Villa could get relegated so we could pick up Bent on the cheap.

I know his faults, but can you imagine Bent in those matches? He would prob be on atleast 20 goals for the season.

You dont even have to play him all the time, use him for impact if the game isnt going well.

    Bent --- Carroll --- Suarez

    Potentially scary, though potentially flawed.

Our composure in and around the box has been appalling all season. That applies to shooting, crossing and other balls into the box.

We are rushing these things when we dont have to. Our players need to learn to be patient in attack, looking up and keep relaxed.

Players like Suarez who play heavily by pure instinct are coming close a lot but not scoring enough. Suarez knows where the ball needs to go (just inside the post), but a lack of composure at times is seeing him hit the post to often, which says to me he should consider mixing up his tactics a bit.

Downing gets into a lot of good positions in the box, but has a habit of shooting far to early and hitting a panic shoot straight at the keeper. Often he has time to take one or two more touches. His technique is good, but he needs to keep his cool in the box. If he did he'd have 10 goals and be a fan favorite.

Carroll is often the man on the end of composed and rushed crosses, which are often to high, to powerful or behind him. Often they are very difficult crosses to turn on target. Carroll is a big guy. If he has to leap to head a ball, it is to high, and will be very difficult to turn on target for any player. Bellamy and Gerrard seem to be the only players putting composed crosses into the box this season.

These are the reasons why we are not scoring, and why we are dropping points. Its not down to luck or the lack of a goal poacher. Our chances rate is so high because we are swing the ball in for the sake of it instead of focusing on creating quality. Personally I think this is more down to coaching than who are players are and what we do and dont have. Downing, Henderson, Suarez and Carroll all have the technique and ability to score us plenty of goals. They just need to calm down, stay composed and be patient.

This lack of composure etc is letting down the great football our defence are playing and how well we pass the ball in midfield.

Its almost like the ball goes into the final third and they think 'OMG I have 3 seconds to put they ball in the box!!!'.

I dont think we can blame luck or say we deserved more points. Our defense and pass and move play deserves more points. But in the final third we are terrible at times. Despite having quality players.

Lawrenson is a joke and the others are bit part players who when they do speak favourably of the club are just ignored as being biased.

    What did whelan do?
