It's not just about league position at the moment, it's about likelihood of competing for silverware in the future and of course MONEY! On that basis, we're still way behind a number of clubs who could compete to sign our lads. The good thing we have is the team spirit and togetherness the lads seem to show. They all seem happy to be here and having european football next season will help.

But I fully expect the vultures to circle and for Mike to cash in yet again on at least one or two of our star performers. Hard to say which ones or where they would go, as I think we now have about 6 or so quality players who could easily get snapped up by a 'big 5' club (six if you include Liverpool always trying to buy Toon players).

Until FFP comes in, the likes of City and Chelski are always going to gobble up the best players. The only good thing is that the money flows into the league, e.g. Torres to Chelski = big bucks for Carroll and Henderson. If you can keep your squad you will be one of next season's contenders, on current form.

I think you're looking at it the wrong way when it comes to selling players.

You have a young, hungry squad. Fair enough you're attached to these players on an emotional level, but after 4 years this is an ageing squad and you're looking at all the top youngsters around Europe that you could have snapped up back in the day for £2m.

You're going out and signing the top youngsters for £2m, £5m instead of forking out £20m like a mug.

It's a fairly basic strategy, but it works. Mugs like Liverpool and Chelsea will fork out £20m on crap, or £50m on a striker - how on earth is Torres ever going to live up to that price tag? No wonder he's bottled it. With low output comes low expectations, and low levels of disappointment if it doesn't work out. In the past your stupid owners would have forked out big bucks on Owen and put all of his eggs in one basket.

You have to accept that you're model is based on buying cheap, quality youngsters, getting the best out of them and shipping them out. It's not good for the nerves come summer/January but it's very healthy for the future of your club. Financially you're one of the best equipped teams now in this division, and when you're not a mega sports brand like Man United you need to be shrewd to make it work.

I think that's a fair analysis of where we are as a club. While it hurts at the time to lose a 'big' player, it's OK if that sale generates the right kind of money for the club to develop. Carroll is a prime example of where we've ultimately profited from a sale that most Toon fans didn't want to happen.

The likes of Krul, Colo, Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Cisse & Ba are going to get the bigger clubs looking at them. I'd hate to see any of them go. But if the money is right, then of course Mike will agree to sell at least one of them. So long as that cash goes back into squad development, we'll be OK.

We've had a great season, but I doubt we'll stay top 6 for the next few seasons as it's hard to maintain. But we are in good shape. And the current transfer policy will help sustain progress, so long as the scouting team keep working teir magic.

We will sell any of our players or all of them if the right prices come in.

Would hate to see Krul or Cisse leave. I feel a decent keeper and goalscorer are harder to come by than anyone else.

Hate to say it, but hes right.

I hope Mike proves us wrong but as long as the team are still performing well next season I honestly couldnt care who goes.

No reason to think any will be jumping ship at this stage. If we qualify for the CL, there won't be any financial pressure to sell and the players can all get what they want right here at Newcastle. The only difference being the two big Manchester clubs are guaranteed to be challenging for the league over the next 3-5 years. We don't have that many players post 25 people would want bar the ones we are committed to keeping anyway (Jonas and Colo). We're under no pressure to sell any of the others due to age, it'll be 4 years before most of them lose their value.

That is all irrelevent! MA and any good business operate in a simple way. If you buy a packet of chips for £1, leave the chip shop and someone offers £2 for them you might say no mate, however if they then offered a fiver or £10 you would say alright then you stupid **** there you are.

Somebody has to offer the silly money first. You said all this in December about January too! They're all still here with a little bonus of Papiss. I think people are underestimating the impact CL will have on our selling policy. Pardew has alluded to it in a recent interview.

I know waht you're saying, however because we have done so well the clubs with cash will now think ok lets rape them and throw away some cash. All the arseholes were still expcecting us to slump but now they know these players are simply just ****ing good enough.

Another club offering Champions league football with x4 the wages would do it I'm sure of that. When are people going to realise loyality is non existant when money is added to the equation.

No doubt they will. And if as expected we fall just short of the top 4, we will be pretty vulnerable. I just suspect now that if we get a win at Wigan (I think its a big ask), we'll be a decent bet to get 3rd or 4th. I don't know why but I fancy us against City at home. And Chelsea will be tough but they have a cup final 3 days later and are slap bang in the middle of a murderous run of games.

Of course the likes of Man U and Man C can still offer them things we can't, but I think we have something a bit special going and it'll need a big offer to even get the player to the discussion table. I don't think Ferguson will be interested in paying 20m plus for any of our players. And I don't think we have anything that City desperately need in Mancinis eyes.

I think Ben Arfa, Cabaye and Cisse will be watched with envious eyes from people with vast amounts of cash, however we might be able to keep them for a season of we get into the champions league. What I would say is we would get alot of money for them and we could build a strong side or even a stronger one.

If I had to worry about one where Man U are concerned it would be Benni. Ferguson is a confirmed admirer and he is very much the type of player he likes.

Just a heads up to you as I didn't want to make a thread, but the Senegal FA has just said that players like Cisse/Ba are in line for the olympics, could this clash with a potential european qualifier?
