Can the Gills still make the playoffs?

Well they could…. IF results go their way, and that is a big IF.

As the Gills are certainly capable of winning the last two matches (although they will probably go and mess it up and lose both!), what of the other teams in the mix…

Crewe – They are defiantly the team in form, and despite a couple of tough games away at Torquay and at home to Aldershot, I can see them getting at least four points from those, thus giving them at least 74 points.

Oxford – Cannot say they are in form at the moment, and with games at home to promotion chasing Southend and away at Port Vale, I feel they will miss out. I can see them only getting three points from those two fixtures putting them on 71 points.

Cheltenham – Not sure about these. About a month ago they were in free fall and could not get a win anywhere. But have since won their last two home games against Barnet and Accrington. Their last two matches are at home to Bradford and away at improving Plymouth. The sceptics amongst us may point to the fact that neither of these teams have anything to play for now that they are safe from relegation. BUT I think that may lift the pressure from them and could make for a couple of tough opponents.

I believe it is Cheltenham’s results rather than Crewes' we should be looking out for.

For the record I am hoping they draw at home and lose away, thus putting them on 72 points. Which is what the Gills could finish on…?

Please tell me I am not deluded!!!

With the goal difference being tight between the contenders, it could even go to the ridiculous lengths of goals scored. I don't care how it happens - I just want us to have a chance in the play-off lottery.

ps - you're no more deluded than those of us going to Northampton - chasing the dream.
Oh - I think that the Gills had better tell Northampton that 800 tickets for us is a load of cobblers - it won't be enough.

I hope you will. Just need to beat Northampton and Morecambe and then just hope that other results go your way.

    Come on Gills

My heart says yes while there is still a mathematic possibility....

My head however is the ying to my heart's yang and says no.

Sadly the rest of my body relucantly feels that my head is correct

We can only do our best and win both games and see, hopefully the momentum from that can allow us to perform in the playoffs too (if we get in). To be honest, judging from recent results I would prefer to play Cheltenham in the playoffs than Crewe as Powell can really carry them.

In theory, yes, of course. But even if we do I don't have a great deal of confidence that we'd get much further, and even less confidence that in the event of the miracle that we end up playing in L1 again next season that we'd actully make much of a fist of it.

Head rules over heart for me too I'm afraid.

90% of me says "no chance, no way, uh-uh." and has done for some time, but the other 10% is screaming "THERE'S STILL CHANCE!"

And the 10% is Drowning out the 90.

    I STILL BELIEVE!

Hang on... are you implying that just because I don't think we will make the playoffs makes me less of a fan than Gem?!

    Ps Tim too!!

Don't worry - your concern shows that you are a Gills fan - it's just that your madness may not have reached terminal status yet - get out whilst you still have a chance of recovery.

ps I'd love to be able to call you Thomas on 5th., May.
As for Tim - he's hoping that he can go to at least one of our away games next season ( Rochdale are relegated )

I think it is too late to get out... I would have been going to Northampton but we have (a poorly arranged) family do to go to which I can't get out of, trust me I have tried :)

Don't worry, I'll still get to some away games, regardless of the division. If the unlikely does in fact take place, Bury and Oldham are very close.

But I have considered the possibility of arranging a 'big meet' in Rochdale if Gills do play here next year. Already formulating plans in my head.

maybe its gills turn, how many times have we missed out by one point, been relegated on goal difference. so maybe its our turn to have things go our way!!! gotta believe (or blindly hope, prob better phrase) whilst it is still mathematically possible!!

Not if the weather's like it was this season - one bloke standing opposite the main stand kept having his unbrella blown inside out. I'm not being held responsible for causing any Gills fans to suffer from hyperthermia.
