While I agree with your analysis of the qualities of Lampard, Drogba etc and it is also certainly true that Spurs do not have the same determination as yet, I didn't get the same impression at Wembley as you. Despite being the victims of one of the worst refereeing decisions in living memory, we fought back well at first. Indeed if Bale had not busted a gut to be in the right place to score when Adebayor was brutally fouled by Cech, then we would have played the last 30 mins against ten men. We were still outplaying you until well after it was 3-1 but leaving lots of gaps as we had to take enormous risks by then. I thought it was a penalty when Cahill blocked that shot (allegedly with his shoulder) and since the shot was on target, he would have had to be sent off too. You went straight down the field, won a free kick and scored. Chelsea deserve a lot of credit for the way they exploited our weaknesses but I couldn't fault or players efforts at all.

Is there anyone in the Spurs squad that we'd take in the summer, if they start jumping ship ?

To be honest our manager and players deserve all the flack they are getting ... and then some. We have no one to blame but ourselves and it's no use blaming bad luck etc. for a run of just 2 wins in 10 league matches. In truth we don't deserve to finish in the top 4 after not winning away from home since december, failing to score against QPR, Chelsea, Sunderland, Liverpool, Everton (away), and only scoring 1 against United, Norwich, west brom, Everton (home)...I suspect some of the players responsible will bleat on about 'needing' CL football as they leg it at the end of the season even though they are a large part of the reason we threw it away, but...

    1) Leeds were a financial joke...over a decade ago they (on roughly similar crowds to us) spent £18 m on Rio F, £12m on Fowler, £10m on Keane, plus mark veduka, Seth Johnson, etc etc plus they paid way over the top wages....Spurs got Ryan Nelson and Saha on free transfers in Jan, Freidal (free) adebayor (loan) Parker £5m in the summer (we sold Palacious and crouch for approx £16m and hutton for £5m in the summer and Roman Pav for £6m in Jan)... Bale cost £5m, Modric £16, Ekotto £4, Gallas free, King nothing, Nico K £2.5m, Bentley £16m, Defoe £15m, Dawson £4m, Huddlestone £1.5m, Lennon £1m, Rose £1m, Sandro £6m, Dos Santos £4.5m, Livermore £2m, Walker £5m, pienaar £2m...That's £93m spent over a period of 5 or 6 seasons Even the most pessimistic valuations of our players would see that we aint going to lose money in sales like leeds did ( Bentley excluded!!!!!!).... over this time we've bought and sold countless players and made a profit in total...we even broke even with the Bent deal after his sale to Villa.
As for our wages the last reported figures from spurs had our wage at £85m per year ...we have a much lower wage limit than even Arsenal and spend approx 50% of our income on wages.
We may well fall back into middle table mediocrity but our club is not at financial risk.

As for the Harry Redknapp bankrupts clubs arguement....it's a lazy wind up to be honest.

Bournemouth and west Ham went into meltdown around a decade after he left. Southampton went down under him and hadn't sorted out their finances and Portsmouth had financial managers who agreed to stupid wages....If you think Redknapp wrecks clubs then is not the same true for MON?
Look at the mess Wycombe Wanders were in, then Leicester City, then Celtic and now Villa...What about Dalglish with celtic and Blackburn? Clubs are financially ruined by Chairman and directors who spend money they haven't got...whatever you want to say about spurs you can't accuse us of that in the last 7 or 8 years.

Still wish we had a back bone though!!!!!

Bale is the only one who is a massive improvement on your team and you can't afford him.

Van der Vaart doesn't fit your system, Modric and Walker would be fighting for places with Wilshere and Sagna.

I'm not sure anyone else will leave apart from Adebayor and he is not ours to sell.

Defoe might be better than your second best striker - please take him....

I'd take Modric - at 28 he's going to want a move to a big club who are playing CL football and staying in London with Arsenal might suit him. Wenger has always rated him and likened him to Fabregas a few seasons ago. There's no way Spurs are going to be able to command a £40m fee this time around, so I'd be tempted with a cheeky £20m bid or thereabouts.

At no stage in that game particularly 2nd half were you "outplaying" us <doh>

It was never a pen or red, any more straws you'd like to clutch? <doh>

  10. Sorry, but in what way is Bale a massive imrovement? In terms of affording him - if we can't, then you cant afford to keep him either.

I would take Wilshere above Modric all day long, and although I rate Sagna less than others on here, he is several classes above Walker (who in the second half of the season has been very poor). Adebayor would be a good second striker if he wasnt such a dick, and Defoe simple isnt good enough.

VDV, Scott Parker, BAE are the only players I would consider. This is not to compare players and squads and who is better or not, it is simply that no one else from your squad would fit into our team (or in the case of Modric would be a good enough like for like replacement).

I'd take Defoe as a back-up striker any day. His goal return for minutes on the pitch has been good imo.

I'd rather have Podolski than Bale tbh, especially with the price difference.

Modric would be competing with Wilshere, Arteta and Rosicky for a place. No need to waste 20m+ on him. Van Der Vaart would too, but maybe he would be cheaper.

Although I doubt many Spuds players would want to come to Arsenal because of the stick they will get.

Are you getting rangers and Celtic confused? After MON left they had a more successful time, won 3 league titles in a row and got to the last 16 of the champions league, plus financially they are pretty well run, in fact wenger wanted peter lowell (there cheif executive) as our chief executive ahead of Glazidas (or what ever he is called), but lowell didnt want to move.

Obviously a matter of opinion, but the facts are that until the 75th minute the number of real goals scored by both sides was one each.

At that point because you had been given a goal start we desperately needed to score so brought Defoe on for VdV and we then lost control completely and were well beaten in the last 15 minutes. Nobody knows what would have happened had it been 1-1 at that point.

Players wanting to leave wont be spuds problem. Their problem will be finding buyers for the overpaid rubbish on their books when they have to sell to stay afloat <ok>

This is known as the leeds effect, or the Arry effect <ok>

Amazing. We've only got a few points less than Arsenal despite only paying three-quarters of your wages and according to you, having an idiot for a manager. Actually i think Wenger is a much better manager than Redknapp and if he was in charge of our 'overpaid rubbish' I suspect we would have about ten more points.

Who the hell would want Bale . seriously .

    He is useless .

Wouldnt touch him with a bargepole.

We already have a player who can run really fast for 100 yards and then do very little at the end of it.

Dont need another 100yard sprint specialist thanks .

We need creativity , Maybe find a place for modric or VDV ,

    Bale ?

    No chance.

Walker is the only spud I'd consider letting in our dressing room as we might be able to train him up to standard with a few years hard graft.

Only after he has been thoroughly de-loused though :p

O dear COYG I think you are going soft! Kyle Walker?!?!?!?!

He is a terrible player. He runs into so many dead ends. Honestly he is the worst of the spud players except for mr overrated scott parker. I wouldnt have walker on a free and on 20k a week. It would be bad business.

Modric and VDV would be fine. The rest are poor players <ok>
