A superficial analysis. The most likely result was always going to involve no or one goal to each side as we're quite evenly matched recently and usually cancel each other out. Once we are one goal down, Chelsea have by far the biggest chance of winning and we have to take some risks. When we go two goals down the whole mindset changes and we have to play very riskily to have any chance at all. When we get to 2-1 with 30 minutes to go it is really quite unlikely that we will score another goal so we still have to take risks. You were good enough to punish us.
Really? isn't the only time you've beaten us in the league in past two seasons when you were given another free goal (and an offside one).
As I've pointed out before, to be a 'bottler' you have to be capable of doing something and fail by loss of nerve. Spurs have never been good enough to be accused of bottling anything recently (but we'll deserve the title if we don't make at least 4th this season). The best example of bottling I can think of is one of the best teams in Europe get through to the CL final and play pretty poorly, but still survive to a penalty shoot out. Their captain just needs to score to lift the precious trophy and.......ring any bells?
Finishing 3rd was well within your capabilities. Once you came up against some decent opposition you choked and are now unlikely to even get 4th or 5th never mind 3rd. I'll bet you weren't capable of beating 10 man Man City at 3-0 up HT to reach the FA Cup QF. Or you weren't capable of beating a Championship side after being 2-0 up at HT. Or weren't capable of beating United after being 3-0 up at HT. Or capable of beating Chelsea or Arsenal even at their weakest and getting aptly beaten. You are bottlers simple as.
Come on lads, this is a funny thread that we can all share a laugh at. Let's not let it descend into argument
OK. But Spurs do deserve a bit of stick after their gloating and three-day title challenge. If you give it out, man up and suck it up. Surely?
Are you off your tits? Barring the result, that was one of the best and most exciting games I have ever seen, and something that is agreed upon by any of the Utd fans I have spoken to in my time up here.
Well - my description of the match may have been a bit of a wind-up, but I still don't see how a club with the sixth or seventh most resources, not finishing in the top four is 'bottling' it, whereas your captain not even being able to stand up and take a crucial penalty, is not. I generally enjoy the discussion on here, but it seems I have to put up with my club being referred to as scum, spuds or bottlers, whereas if I make even a slightly wumming response, I get abuse as well.
How is a centre back stepping forward to take the deciding penalty in a C.L final 'bottling it'? He even then had the bottle to go for placement over power. The fact he slipped on a wet pitch was an unfortunate and cruel thing that can happen to anyone. The man's got more bottle than the rest of your squad put together.
I honestly don't see what the probelm with Spuds is? The rest, then fair enough. I didn't spot your wum, thought you were being serious
he slipped for crying out loud, it was pissing down with rain! and we call you bottlers because this happens season in season out, you start well and bottle the second half of the season. this season its even worse because you had 3rd place more or less sewn up and spurs fans were on here running their mouths gloating in our faces about how you could win the title! its no surprise everyone is giving as good as they got mate
Ok - he was brave to take the kick and unlucky to fail. Why is being good for the first half of the season and then being poor worse than the other way round? I don't even think it is true that this is what usually happens. DL usually proves me wrong with statistics though..... It has happened this season but that is down to a lot of factors. We've actually played reasonably well during most of our poor run but bad tactics from Harry and very poor finishing have done for us. I also think we've been on the wrong end of a lot of poor decisions, but I doubt I'll get much sympathy for that.
its easier to carry on a constant winning streak than to pick yourself up after performing so badly like we were. you lot were taking teams apart before you lost to arsenal! ive been watching some of your matches lately and i do agree youve been quite unlucky at times, but your away form is shocking and you cant put every away loss in the space of 4 months down to bad luck.
