Hey guys arsenal fan in peace. Just wondering assuming you make top four and assuming you don't make top four are there any star players you wouldn't mind getting rid of since there are better alternatives/reserves available who would enhance or the quality of your team or purely for the sake of team spirit....or because quite simply they have been poor? I'm just asking because i can't help but notice theres been a lot of criticism directed towards quite a few of them.
if you make top four you would want to get rid of.... if you do not make top four you would want to get rid of... (assuming it makes a difference)
better transfer options available who would be willing to play for you or better than players already playing for you...anything else? ....team spirit in the sense that forcing them to stay against their will would be to your detriment e.g. modric
In answer to what I think is your question though: I'd say that our 5 most important players are Bale, Modric, Parker, Kaboul and Walker, and the club would be making a huge mistake to let any of these go both in footballing terms and what it would say about our ambitions. I think the 3 areas that the club should be looking to strengthen in the summer should be striker, right wing, and centre back. Adebayor seems unlikely to be staying past this season and Defoe and Saha are simply not good enough to warrant a starting place. Lennon has had a bad time with injuries this year and I think he is in need of some genuine competition for a place. Our centre-backs are injury prone and as a result inconsistent, it may be the moment to call time on King and Gallas. We've all been keen on Verthongen and Damiao for 12 months or so but they would seem unlikely to happen if we don't get Champions League.
well it isn't always a bad thing though. I personally wanted cesc and nasri out at arsenal because i felt it was going to be detrimental to the team in the long run. I don't want rvp out but if he wants to go i would say sell him for the right price and bring in matias suarez. If i was a spurs fan though i think i would want modric out because he seems to be making a nuisance of himself and his recent performances have been poor. I would also want ade out as he is inconsistent and lazy. I would keep the rest and reckon you guys would be crazy to sell bale he would walk into any team in the prem and i feel harry is misusing him
oh and if walcott doesn't want to sign i would sell him too as we have several replacements in the reserves imo. I would retain all our present midfielders though as we really haven't got much depth there.
you seriously under estimate VDV...utter class and the only one who has looked like he might create something of late...the only one who is a true winner and has proved it in his career...as if we could ever have enough of such characters.
also the only one who's come out and clearly stated his intentions: http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11675/7692142/Van-der-Vaart-won-t-walk-away o dear... looks even worse for harry now, doesn't it? some fans moan about Rafa, but at least he's a genuine guy.
Not sure how many of them count as stars but I hope we manage to get rid of Gomes, Gallas, Nelsen, Corluka, Jenas, Bentley, Kranjcar, GDS and Defoe this summer. Most of them aren't still here through the lack of trying to sell them but I just hope we stop trying to haggle and get them off our wage bill so we can bring in some fresh players.
I'd love Ade to stay, as he is quality, and he's clearly enjoying himself at Spurs. It's possible that he will have learned, with his time at Arsenal and City, that it's not only about the money, and that there has to be some job satisfaction, too. Perhaps he can be lazy, but he certainly works harder than Berbatov did for us. it's just his style of play. His technique and ability are there for all to see, though. Having said that, he's a City player, and I can't seen us paying out top dollar for him, either in fees or wages, if we can get one of our long-term targets for the same sort of price-package. Other than that, I'd certainly put King in retirement next season, and I'd try to shift all those players who clearly do not have a future at Spurs: Jenas, Bentley, GDS, Kranjcar, Corluka and Bassong. I'd keep Gallas and Nelson as squad players. As for our top stars, I'd certainly look to sell Defoe, as I cannot see that he has anything more to offer. If we don't get rid of him, we'll all be back here, this time next season, moaning about the lack of goals that our strikers are notching up. I'd promote Caulker and Naughton to the main squad, and I'd look to rota them during next season with the first XI, along with Rose and Livermore. Although I don't want him to leave, I rather fear that letting Modric go is going to be the best thing for the club. His performances have been no more dismal than any of our other star players, these last few matches, but as the man around which Harry has built the team, he has demonstrated a remarkable degree of listlessness. I want a battling "Paul Scholes" type midfield, a player who, even if he has on off-day, will still work hard for the team, and help out in defence. Let's take as much cash as we can for him, and use it to buy two marque players. I'd look to buy-in a marque striker and a marque CB with the Modric money. Any spare cash should be used to "scout" a CM, a RW and a LB, and perhaps another striker, although I'd like young Kane to be given a chance, if he's ready.
TBH I'm a little bit sympathetic to this idea right now. With two big "if"s. IF we can get the sort of silly money that was allegedly offered last summer and IF we can invest that money well on a couple of players who are proven but currently playing for non-premium European teams (like Berba was) then it's got to look like an improvement. Trouble is that this is Spurs and our record signings show why I'm not very sure that we will spend the money wisely. Our record signings ever: David Bentley Blackburn Rovers 30 July 2008 £17,000,000 (cond.) Luka Modric Dinamo Zagreb (Croatia) May 2008 £16,500,000 Darren Bent Charlton Athletic June 2007 £16,500,000 Robbie Keane Liverpool February 2009 £16,000,000 (cond.) Jermain Defoe Portsmouth January 2009 £15,000,000 Roman Pavlyuchenko Spartak Moscow (Russia) August 2008 £14,000,000 Wilson Palacios Wigan Athletic January 2009 £12,000,000 Sergei Rebrov Dynamo Kiev (Ukraine) May 2000 £11,000,000 Err...
Depends who the manager is tbh. It may all work our for you if you get a good price and a replacement like hazard. I would bite of anyones.hand for a price in excess of £30mil. Kovaic would be great to but hes one for the future though i would be gutted if you got him as an arsenal fan.
that is a scary list...im sure we have thrown a world class player away with that amount of money...however alot of them were purchased around the Commolli era? and Sergei Rebrov?? he was around in the ultra defensive George Graham era? it's like Cb says...depends who the manager is..quite frankly i dont trust HR with too much money unless we want to see his old chums back at the club.
that list is a little harsh though Lenny, we've also done some good business. Berba was sold for 30mill, Carrick was sold for 18 mill, bent was sold on with "addon's", (so we're going to get pretty much all our money back), we sold keane for 20m then bought him back for 15m(?) 6 months later. i'm sure there's more I haven't mentioned, too. it's not that bad!
I think that we got all of the add-ons paid up when Bent moved to Villa, Roo. We basically got our money back on him.
