Right theres is a lot of debate going round atm about hess and people laying into him about what he says in interviews and his decisions etc. lets keep this simple, vote for whether he should stay or go. fell free to put a reason in and suggest replacements.

for me i think he should stay, i think he has shown that he can get a team capable of promotion but does seem to get some bad luck with injuries (i know this is a bad excuse but we dont have a Man City budget and therefore can't be 3 decent players deep at every posistion), players out of form (not his fault) etc. for me if he goes, i know he wont hold the club to ransom but will get a compensation package of some sort therefore eating into the budget of any new manager. he has shown with his signings that he has some good contacts and an eye for talent both in the loan and perminant market, yes you could argue kuffour hasnt looked great since signing perminantly but you cant get it right 100% of the time. i refer you to gazza, lee and whelpdale now they are firing on all cyclinders.

so let open the debate and get peoples opinions rather than just slagging him off for what he says etc

    sure brb will moderate accordingly!!

i think it depends on who we bring in.. if scally want to change him with a sucesfull non-league manager then stick with hess because this was done with stimson and hess.
If scally wants to bring an experienced league manager such as peter taylor/lawrie sanchez.....(these are 2 examples, dont want people down my throat for mentioning these 2) then go for it.
We also need somebody who knows how to spend wisely as hessy obviously hasn't.

I am all for him staying, but let"s get someone in who knows the game
to be his number 2, there must be some very good heads out there who would relish the job,

Good bloke with a fantastic eye for a player and has coped well with ludicrous expectations of some supporters. Has performed outstandingly well at higher than league 2 level and has built a team from nothing at non league level. Has every chance of gaining promotion in the next year or two and staying up. Needs to maintain consistency of selection, avoid loan signings and research forensically the fitness track record of future signings.

I am not so sure about the fantastic eye comment, he has brought in some good players in Whelpdale, Lee etc but has also brought in some duffers Fish, Montrose etc. My concern is he doesn't seem to know how to get the best out of the players he has at his disposal. The expectation comment is a fair point but Hess has not helped the situation with his comment regarding promotion and playoff he last two seasons,

Plus what does it matter if he is a 'good bloke'? I would happily have a manager who drowned kittens in his spare time ifnhe got us promoted. (I do not endorse the killing of animals and no kittens were harmed in the writing of this post)

as i said above no manager is ever 100% right with his buys, even fergie often gets its wrong. you must remeber as well that fish and montrose are young players learning the game but with potential, if we nurture it right then we have the next jack payne and a valuable (in both senses) asset to the club

Of course that is the case Jokey, I was just making the case for the opposition. I sometimes feel that some fans are blinded by the fact that Hess is/was a club stalwart and aren't willing or can't see his faults

dont get me wrong i see his faults but hopefully he's learning from them and i just dont see us being able to afford a better replacement and have money to sign what we need for next season

Hess as we know is going nowhere, he has his failings that have been well documented on these pages but I cannot see us attracting/affording anyone better. I hope he has learnt from the last two seasons and we benefit next season. I do honestly feel with a bit of luck on the injury front (or better fitness management) we would have made the play off's comfortably, I also feel suspensions have also been a contributing factor.

I will need to see who stays/goes and who we bring in before making a comment on Hess and promotion next year. For me Hess to stay.

Well that is the crux of the matter isn't it. Many fans believe (and it has been stated on here) that the squad we have is currently capable of getting promotion, so I suggest that replacing the management team would cost less than a new playing staff.

But surely bringing in a new management team will also mean a change of personnel within the squad? New players, time to gel and get used to the way the new manager wants to play.

Then If we don't have instant success we'll go round in circles again, calls for new manager, new players, time to gel etc etc and so on and so forth.

Very true, however, I assume that IF the current crop of players are good enough than the changes to the playing squad would be minimal. Big assumption I know but we can't keep throwing good money at Hess for new players if he can't get the best out of the players he has at his disposal.

Hessy to stay. He had 3 seasons to get us up, he has one left. I will give him till christmas, if we our in top half then keep him till the end of season when contract ends. We have got some quality players but have either been injured or loss of form during the season has really cost us this season. Next season they have to be more consistant and hope there are not too many injuries. We will need at least 3 quality players which must consist real pace as we don t seem to have much.

Keeping it simple as requested and considering i've already said a lot on this topic:

    OUT

We will never get promoted with Hess in charge

if the fans targeting the play offs is ludicrous then what of hess's target of automatic promotion target both seasons, besides the bookies made us favorites to win the league in his first season and this season scally claims this is the best squad he has seen.

given that context i don't see play off ambitions from fans as ludicrous.

Bristol407- Are you Hessy in disguise? I have to disagree with pretty much everything you've written. Firstly when has he performed outstandingly as a manager at a higher level than division 2? From memory he left his post as Gillingham manager last time when we were 4th from bottom and relegation was looming. Just to clarify his league record his pretty similar to the much maligned Stimson. Fantastic eye for a player?Well let's be honest he's tried enough of them, he's had an embarrassing amount of players to choose from this season. In view of the fantastic support he's received from Scally in the transfer/loan market I think fans should be expecting to reach the play offs at the very least. Fitness of future signings? He can't even keep his current crop of players fit, you can't tell me Kedwell doesn't need to shed a few pounds for a start.

hess was in charge of our highest ever finish in the football league when we were in the championship! yes he left when we were on our way down but he is tehnically our most successful manager
