After this years Grand National we heard the usual calls for the race to be cancelled following the death of 2 horses, not the first call for cancellation. This year we hear.. So, if human life is equal if not superior to animal life and we are to remain consistent, surely marathons should be cancelled. Now I just know that nobody can possibly put up a reasonable case for keeping on with this barbaric sport. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
The difference is that humans choose to run marathons with all their risks. If they are not fit, they should not run. Horses do not choose to run a course which results in deaths year after year, all for the sake of the gambling industry.

At least do some research. Then it will not look like you are spouting utter ****e. Even the RSPCA would at that comment.
Synchronised who died in the Grand National, injured himself running loose. He had thrown his jockey off a few fences earlier, so the horse was jumping the fences on his own, because he enjoyed jumping them. Basically most horse's enjoy racing, that's why they continue racing without a jockey onboard. Horses are big strong animals, if they didn't like racing they wouldn't be bullied by a 9 stone jockey into jumping a fence
I think there is a lot of sensationalism on the subject at the moment. Other than radicals, I don't think that there would be too many people who would hold a horse's life equal to that of a human being. We don't eat people, (well most of us don't) but some of us eat horse. We eat cows, sheep, chooks and dogs etc, so we generally hold the value of their lives below ours. But we as human beings also attribute a lot of values to animals that just don't hold true. We read a lot of ourselves into creatures. Horses do like to sprint around and test themselves against their peers. But I very much doubt that a riderless horse chasing a pack, jumps because it loves the racing game. It's just trying to stick with the others for safety reasons. We make horse racing. The horses are a tool.
If the general public and media insist on trying to morally police everything, they should start with a few things that would really have an impact on mortality rates ......................... war, binge drinking, smoking, driving like fecking lunatics
BTW, just for those who don't realise, I neither want the Grand National or marathons cancelled, I just like to throw things out there for debate. My view is that some are far to quick to press the cancel button on horse racing but when its a human in a marathon we say, lets look at how we can make it safer and improve it. The same response, IMO, to horse racing.

I'm neither for or against the National but I tend to agree with the above. I wonder if as many humans died in the race as horses year in year out. Would they ban it then?
These people who die during various races or football games are usually found to have health conditions which would have killed them anyway. The exertion may have exacerbated the condition and finished them off quicker than was likely but then they could drop down dead doing next weeks shopping! There's always an outcry of some sort these days but where does it come from? To be honest I think the press is usually behind it as oppose to any real people.
No, he's right to a degree. I'm aware that horses can enjoy running and jumping, and I'm aware that they will not run if they really don't want to. However, the key is that horses are not consciously aware of the risks. You cannot explain to a horse that there's a risk of them falling and having to be put down, and they can't figure that out themselves. We're relying on the horses to be unaware of these risks for the races to happen, because if there was a way for them to somehow know, I bet a lot more horses wouldn't budge.
Is anybody aware that if a Horse is sandwiched between 2 other Horses whilst sprinting, the pressure could push the Horses organs out of the Horses mouth? not good stuff folks.
Ever tried to get a horse to walk, run, jump or even let you stay on it's back when it doesn't want to????? Thought not...... Choose to run? No. Love to run? YES!
