No less than 7 goalkeepers were watched yesterday by our scouts, ranging from games in the Championship down to the Conference. This is normal for a Saturday and in addition to those being monitored abroad. Any "dither and dally" will be over terms and transfer fees, rather than lack of scouting or research <ok>

If we were sensible, we'd sign Lloris as first-choice and Jack Butland from Brum for a long-term investment, loaning him out to a Championship club for next season, and a Prem club the season after.

Oh, and get shot of Alnwick PDQ.

    Evening Spurf

    Plenty of thoughts mate !!

The club is working hard to sort out the unsatisfactory keeper situation beyond the first team. Whilst Friedel is a big asset to us, he does have his faults and although the plans for next season do include him as our number 1 keeper, there are ongoing plans to bring in at least 2 new keepers ahead of the new season.

You'll forgive me for giving names out on here, but I can tell you that a keeper from a very successful championship team has been watched every week for some considerable time, and to the other extreme, a keeper from a conference team based in the north west, has recently had a trial with us and played in a behind closed doors friendly in the week before last.

    <ok>

    Not necessarily.

As for the young keepers, Jack Butland of Brum and Sam Slocombe of Scunthorpe have been linked.

We've also been linked to Tim Wiese of Hertha Berlin, although he's made some utter clangers against Juventus and Rangers in the past.

The article is about some foriegn keeper, not this lad you've gone off on a tangent about, so as I said, and quite correctly, the article would seem to be bullshit.

Did we scout Saha, Nelsen or Adebayor? Because we certainly signed them.

    To do List:

    1. Find replacement for HR
    2. Buy 2 new strikers
    3. Buy 1 new CB, recall Caulker
    4. Buy cover for Walker.
    5. Buy new playmaker, should Modric leave.

Surely Friedel is the least of our worries?

As I said before in this thread Goalkeeping is the least of our concerns right now, but Friedel is not a young man with a long future so we should be looking to the future and securing his replacement sooner rather than later. It's just good housekeeping Chirpy. We must hope the club is also concerning itself with as much care, to the list you have itemised.

Why are you still wobbling on??? did you miss this in Post 26 or something...

"Whilst Friedel is a big asset to us, he does have his faults and although the plans for next season do include him as our number 1 keeper, there are ongoing plans to bring in at least 2 new keepers ahead of the new season."

Does this sound like we're replacing him with a Frenchman? or would you like a bigger shovel? :)

    1. Agreed
    2. Two strikers, plus more chances for Harry Kane
    3. I say Caulker, plus one, plus one to be loaned out to a Prem club to gain experience - we're likely to see Bassong, Gallas, King, Nelsen and Khumalo leave in the next couple of seasons
    4. On one hand I'd rather we just used Corluka more, on the other we have Naughton available for next season and maybe Adam Smith
    5. We're linked to at least three!

Did we scout Friedel? Did we scout Cudicini? Did we scout Van Der Vaart? Not digging a hole for myself by any means.

Also, "although the plans for next season do include him as our number 1 keeper" isn't the same as saying he will be out first-choice keeper, is it? And, for the record, 'Arry was saying Gomes would be our number one right up until the moment Friedel was signed.

Also another Left Back, to replace or compete with Benny.... Baines would be my choice.

    MUPLC have begun tapping-up Baines.

We will have Naughton available next season, who can fill in at either full back.

I don't even think that Gomes believed that one, Croydon! <laugh>
We all know that Redknapp's a little economical with the truth, but it seems to have backfired completely with the Brazilian.
He's not even been our 2nd choice.

Friedel is not even a young man Spurf! <laugh>

Agreed it is an important position. I like the look of Al Habsi, but we could have the Good Lord himself between the sticks if we play King and Gallas together any more, it will take a lot more than divine intervention to keep a clean sheet. Our defence seems to turn most keepers into basket cases.
