anyone else get the feeling this was gonna happen after kuyt missed that early chance? Yes we played brilliantly for a while, but weve done that so many times this season without scoring that I can no longer believe its just luck. Also were ****e at corners.... what was it? 14 corners to 2? but they had the best chance from a corner. Happened against Cardiff as well, we had over 10, then in extra time they got their first which was cleared off the line by Kuyt, for another corner, which they scored... at least we scored one of those that day. After they scored, our play broke down as well and all we seemed to be doing was giving it to the wingers to hit bad crosses into the box, which they kept doing with absolutely no success. The entire team really should be practising finishing several hours every day.
We're so close yet so far from tearing teams a new one yet at the end of the day we're a striker or two short of this. Our main issue is our attack; the fact we think Carroll, our number 9,has had a good game if he manages to hold-up the ball a bit and make an effort. The fact is our number 9 should only be having a good game after he's banged in the second of the match, we need strikers that score, end of. (not a dig at carroll, just our bite at that end of the pitch)
Ding, ding! We have a winner! Our performance yesterday was great - anyone with half a brain who watched the game will recognise that (unless you're a moronic wum). Swap Carroll for a clinical, pacey striker with some semblem of a footballing brain and we'll be knocking in 3/4 goals a game, which is still a poor return from 25 shots a game!
I agree with this, as much as some people think Carroll is improving and looking better, he just isn't the quality or type of player we need.
I said yesterday the team selection intreged me and what i saw definietly confirmed a few things 1. half our players are not bothered. 2. the midfield lacks creativity and drive 3. we take small teams for granted and are sloppy as a result. johnson's lazy flick when reina had made himself available for an easy back pass and clearance is somethign that would never ever happen against a big team. I feel that west brom defended in a classic hodgson way.. very deep and let us have it. We should have scored yes but half the chances were only half chances cos we have not creativity and drive. Henderosn needs to man up a bit and drive himself.. this he needs to learn just like lucas had to. spearing is just so average. maxi and kuyt cna't run... but they all worked harder than the alternatives like gerrard would have. I honeslty feel andy carroll wasn't in that game unlike the semi. big games = big performance is utter rot. the only way to a big game is to play the small ones just as hard and urgenly, you must earn the right to a big game. If we can win all our home game si nthe fa cup to earn a big game it is unimpressive to win 5 out of 17 home game si nthe league... there is a serious lack of drive and will to win here.... no question.
MITO, I don't understand your 2nd paragraph. If a team defends deep, then the chances of creating making more than half chances are reduced if the defence is doing it's job. You don't have the space to create clear cut chances! As for Henderson, it was quite clear that his prime role was to collect balls knocked away by their defence and feed it either out to the wings or to clip it back into the box. This role he effected very well!
