What is the best outcome for us? Not sure whether we will have a better time of it with Chelsea bowing out of the competition or going through and therefore concentrating on the two finals they've got coming up. Personally I favour the crushing cruel defeat preferably on penalties after extra time especially if the goal that levels it for Barca is a fluke scored in the dying seconds of added time. Any thoughts?
A 1-0 Barca win courtesy of an incredibly dubious late goal, extra-time followed by a 119-118 win on penalties for Barcelona, Chelsea's flight being cancelled, Terry getting banged up for groping the stewardess's arse, Drogba not being allowed back in the country.
Add some minor injuries that keep half their team on the treatment table. Speaking of which their physio is impressive....
I don't think it would make much of a difference. Obviously extra time would help but I don't think any of the Chelsea team playing at Barca would play on the weekend as there are bigger games coming up so fringe players would have to be used, but as Blackburn found out it's not always easy to play teams who are fighting for places in big matches. A Chelsea loss would probably mean the team are more focused on the league so if it were me I'd probably want a Chelsea win. Only game that really matters on the Tuesday for you guys is Villa vs Bolton, a Villa win would all but mean you are safe if you beat Stoke at home and Bolton's poor form continues.
Regardless of the result a long, hard game for Chelsea against Barca with it going into extra time must be good news for us. I would prefer Chelsea to go through put via extra time and penalties than a Barca win inside 90 minutes. Chelsea play Newcastle the Wednesday after us and Liverpool the following Saturday so are undoubtedly going to have to rotate the team anyway.
Agree with all of this. A Chelsea win would be best and I'd want them to win anyway as they're an English team..........SORRY!!
I think if Chelsea do their homework they can get a result. Barcelona looked jaded against Madrid last night and gave away a schoolboy howler goal from which Chelsea will learn they are vulnerable. One away goal may be enough and anything that will make them field a lesser side against us will be welcome...
It's important for the league that one English team does as well as possible. IMO if the team currently 10th in Spain could wallop the team 1st in England home and away it sends out a bad message. Not just as a fan but I would really like to see the two underdogs go through and have a Chelsea v Bayern final. Everybody seemed to assume an El Clasico final was set in stone but it will go to the wire. I actually think Bayern and Barca will progress and I'll be rooting for Bayern to win the final if it happen. I prefer Dortmund but can't stand this Barca team and hate Madrid as a club.
Totally agree Col. Nothing to do with our wanting / needing a result at the Bridge. Matter of principle. Always support Brit sides in Euro competitions. Always have since Celtic won the European cup. I know others are different but it's just the way it is for me.
i would have to say that Chelski Barca will go to Barca they can't lose 3 games on the trot can they and for the other tie I will be hoping that Bayern Munich see off another team that has a buy buy buy at any cost (don't normally want the Germans to win win they let me down in 1999, don't want them to do so again. We can get something at chelski the team are due an away win so anything is possible. Comeon uuurrrsss.
For once i don't really care if Chelsea win tbh. They beat Barca at SB and if they did them away they may let us get a point.
Whatever the outcome you'd have to say the football gods are smiling on us by giving us this scenario. Chelsea reaching the final stages of both cup competitions is exactly what we hoped for.
In fairness I can understand why Spurs, Arsenal and Newcastle don't want us to win it as it has a direct knock on effect for them and I think Arsenal and Spurs (however deluded) still harbour ambitions of winning it themselves one day
I hope that Chelsea go through, but I can't see FIFA letting their favourite lovechild not progress. Cue corrupt referee and dodgy decisions. Barca cying foul every two seconds and going over easy in the box at every oppotunity. If we are to get anything at the bridge next week it will be down to our own application and endeavour, regardless of the team Chelsea decide to field. Whatever the circumstances, it won't be easy.
With Drogba going down at each and every opportunity, but then again he plays for cheslki other alleged divers include ashley young & cristiano ronaldo, but neither of them play for Barcelona or chelski. Just imagine the nightmare scenario of chelski against either of the other two teams left in the competition. Just to see the faces of C£$hley Cole, John 'I am no racist' Terry, Jose Mourinho (Give me an unlimited budget and I will win something for you, but i wont be staying very long), Cristiano 'winker' Ronaldo, would sicken me. I would like to see the following QPR stay in the prem, chelski to lose at least 3 more games including Tuesday, Sunday and the cup final.
Not much to talk about of interest on this thread knowing chelsea are resting the best of their old age pensioners squad tomorrow for their big one sunday
