Norway. Didn't know it was an 'argument'. But if you can point out (1) where I've 'lost' the 'argument' and (2) where I've got 'personal' I'd be grateful. You've lost me there. I think 'old goats' is rather more personal so I suggest you practice what you preach. "its simple to me and most others but not to some": yes you were spot on with Agustien who was "nothing special" despite those of us who actually saw him play (you hadn't) saying the opposite. So don't be so quick to blow your own trumpet on the judgment front. Valley: Apart from the resident troll I don't think anyone would say replace Graham with Dobbie. That wouldn't work. I fully accept that the system we play is difficult for Dobbie to slot into but if we don't get Siggy (which looks increasingly likely) I think he's worth a punt in that role behind Danny. But I still say we don't know. Those that say he could definitely do a job are as wrong as those that say he definitely can't. How people can say he's had his chance and blown it is beyond me, because he clearly hasn't.
you can only go by what you see.....and at the moment brendan's boy is drawing a blank big time and the one we sent out on loan is scoring for fun......brendan has got it wrong imo...none of them are that good but brendan persists with danny when its clear he needs to be replaced by someone else...dobbie would have been an option and so would moor and lita as they could not have been as poor as danny have been but have never got the chances danny has had, anyway all 4 needs to be replaced if we are to survive next season more so now that we will lose siggs who has saved our season....
Knackered I agree that maybe he could do a job in that role, but if siggy don't sign we need to find another player of his abilities, dobbie is not it and will never been it. I like dobbie he is a down to earth guy that I have spoken to a few times, but we don't need nice guys we need someone who scores goals and contributes. If Blackpool comes up again I think he won't have a role with them either as they know his short comings.
"we need someone who scores goals and contributes" So how do you, we or anyone else know he can't? If you want a player of Siggy's ability be prepared to fork out - big time.
Because I trust the judgement of the manager who sees him in training, and what I have seen in the reserves. So who do you drop for him to play ? Is he better than the player dropped ? In your opinion would we have more points if he played ?
I don't know. That's my point. We'd be in the **** without Siggy that's for sure. Brendan does make mistakes, we all know that. Some of us said Sousa dropped a clanger in sending out Dobbie in the first place. We were right. I happen to think Rodgers has made the same mistake. But I come back to the same point. Give him a chance ffs. Not a bit part - a real chance. I hope he stays with us and gets his chance next season. If we lose Rodgers that'll be more likely imo. If not, he should go elsewhere where he's wanted. Serves us right if he stays with Pool if they get promoted and he shines for them.
Rodgers doesn't have the luxury , like us , to do the what if's . Buck never had the tools most Premier league managers had this season , but he's proved to be a better mechanic than most , to most . P.S. Nobody scored our first 4 games of the season , Graham never played the 5th & got 30 minutes in the 6th . He scored a goal in each of his next 4 starts , 2 in the Bolton game if you count the own goal Lol !!
KJ- You are arguing that dobbie hasnt been given a chance in the premier league and i am arguing that he has and brenden made a decision based on this. The personal jibe of course was me not being at the play-off final "There speaks someone who didn't go to the Final. " along with "did you see the play-off games" of course i saw those games but didnt go due to working in another country But what difference does it make? id love to know What you said had no relevance to what we are discusing and could only have been typed to try and get a rise (which of course didnt happen) The point has been summed up perfectly by Cracker, you cant really argue with the choices made by Brenden,he saw the flaws and strengthend in that part of the field, bringing in Gylfi, who has gone on to secure us prem survival
"What you said had no relevance to what we are discusing and could only have been typed to try and get a rise (which of course didnt happen)" Yeah?
KJ- So you dont know Think that kind of sums up everything for me!! Lets take a leap here and pretend that Brenden does know!! he has seen dobbie in the prem league and noticed his slow foot work and lack of speed of thought and ponderous closing down of opposition players and decided he needs to get another option in, that option turns out to be Siggy, who secures us prem football. As much as we all love Dobbie to think he hasnt been given a chance is complete tosh, an informed manager can see the flaws quicker than you or me, thats why he is at Blackpool and not in the squad here
No I don't know and neither do you. You're basing your view on 'Brendan must be right'. I don't subscribe to that.
I don't either but as he is the man there making the decisions he unlike us doesn't have the benefit of hindsight. If we had played him quite possibly we wouldn't be in the same position we are in now. And is he in your opinion a better player than the players in the first 11 ?
I need to butt in here. You say Buck saw the flaws in Dobbie and improved in that position...........In January, 5 months after the season had started. Before Siggy's capture, was Dobbie our regular play-maker/2nd striker role? He wasn't. So, how did Buck know we needed to improve there when Dobbie wasn't given a run of games?
Correct, so why was Dobbie allowed to play until January? Why wasn't he allowed a run of 6 or 7 games to get to grips with the standard of the Premier league? Every other play was allowed, why not him.
I dont know what goes on in the mind of the manager but i do know that thinking dobbie was hard done by is not accurate, this is my basis of debate here. The manager didnt think he was up to the task so got more options in for 2nd half of season, seems simple to me
Why not dobbie?? well as i said before in this thread maybe the Manager saw enough defects in his game to know that he would not be a starting option, he was reduced from starting to playing back up,then phased out altogether. We dont know all the reasons why, the manager see the players train every day, maybe he doesnt close down quick enough etc, etc, etc whatever the reason is the manager has made it, and has stuck with it, we are in 11th place, would we be higher or lower with Dobbie in the team every week ??
is brendan right playing danny in the next game having seen him draw a blank on 9 straight games or should he try someone else....we all know that he will play his boy danny and that is not fair on the other strikers. is brendan right???? of course he isn't, he is flogging a dead horse trying to prove a point that he was right in paying all that money for a dud.....what would you call first 6 games with zero goals...ok lets give him time to adjust to premiership football...fair enough ill buy that. then he goes on another 5 game barren run, what does brendan do then he drops danny to the bench and bring in lita and moore and low and behold we win our first away game in style....brendan did not stick with a run on that he brings danny boy back....not long after danny is on his final barren run that is 9 games and still counting......is that acceptable or if you were the manager would you try and put it right....I know that 99% of managers would not accept playing a striker who cant find the net for all the barren runs that danny has had this season, i feel sorry for the other strikers including dobbie who has not been given a chance by brendan because of his blue eyed boy.......he wont get away with it next season thats for sure.....
Sorry Norway but I do disagree. A few comments above have stated "He doesn't train aswell as other". The training will be the same as last year, there wasn't an issue then and he was picked regularly. This season, he has two starts, 7 appearances. For me, that is not enough game time to get going, remembering there has been a summer break. Had he played 5 full games and given nothing, I would agree, but he hasn't.
