Defoe is a mid table decent striker , no more or less. The only club that came in to buy him was Portsmouth which says a lot. The way we are going he is the perfect fit for next seasons mid table blandness.
Who said I will take joy at the Skunks success? I also quite like the Gooners so I am not' anti-cocknee', I just think it very very funny that arrogant spuds supporters looked down on teams 'up north' but yet when towards the end of the season when 'bottle' is required 'harry I pay tax when I want' and his team of misfits is found wanting!
"looked down" in what sense do we look down on teams up north?...also the reference to "cockney" was just to confirm most sunderland fans seem rather thick as you all seem to believe anyone from London, is a "cockney".
Now that would be a good argument if it were true. There has been a lot of support on this site for NUFC and the football they are playing. On the other hand the anti-football from Sunderland does not attract our admiration. Do not confuse arrogance with a love of good football played the right way. Whether that comes from Swansea, NUFC or even humble Wigan we applaud it. Yours is a non argument!
Oh and Defoe was a joke yesterday he can't pass and contribute to an overall team performance, he's too often simply out for himself. He's pretty much only effective against a team that plays open football against us so really he's more suited to a mid table team where that's not a problem. PNP, it's not so much that we didn't play to his strengths, it's that we relied on him. He never got himself into the right positions and never the demanded the ball, he's happy to do this when he's playing well against a team that we're creating space against, you can't stop him whinging when he doesn't get the ball then.
You said that you were enjoying it yourself. You wouldn't have been laughing about Newcastle displacing us in 4th otherwise. We looked down at your team because you were incredibly dull and killed the game. Teams play like that against Barcelona and Barcelona we aint. I think you'll find we've not criticised United, City, Liverpool, Newcastle, Everton, Blackburn or Bolton this season so I don't see why you think we pick on the Northern teams, it just doesn't stack up. FYI Cockneys are from East London, Arsenal are from so far East that they were in Kent(Not Cockneys) and we've always been based in North London and are named after the area we were founded and still play in.
Unfortunately, it's not just a Sunderland trait. I lived in North Yorkshire for a while, and they all believed that all Londoners were cockneys, too. I found it funny, because to me, they all looked and sounded like the Tetley Tea Folk
Exactly, YV! This is the reason why I believe that Bent be the better option for us at the moment. Defoe relies upon space and pace, whereas Bent finds space, and relies upon being in the right position, to score his goals.
Defoe isn't a striker who can do it all on his own. He is good at what he does but he was most definitely anonymous all yesterday and it proves again that he isn't a lone striker. When we signed VdV I was imagining the 2 of them (VdV and Defoe) linking up amazingly. On paper it should happen - in reality not at all.
If you want to ultimate damning evidence on Bent, then just look at where all of the teams that he's played for have ended up. Ipswich: Relegated. Charlton: Relegated. Spurs: Only two seasons outside the top 5 in the last 6 seasons were when he was at the club. Sunderland: 13th and 10th. Villa: 9th and now utter ****e. He's clearly doing something wrong, isn't he?
Defoe is better than Bent. He doesn't fit our current system like PNP said but that doesn't make him a bad player. He's a better finisher than Adebayor and Saha by miles, he just can't play up top on his own.
In all fairness I don't find Spurs fans to be arrogant at all, frustrated yeh but generally good banter.
