From the people.. Sunderland determined to hang on to in-demand Stephane Sessegnon Apr 15 2012 By Alan Oliver SUNDERLAND boss Martin O'Neill is determined to hang on to Stephane Sessegnon - even though he knows his top striker has plenty of admirers. PEOPLE SPORT revealed on November 13 that Sessegnon, whose wife and five children are still based in France, has found it difficult to settle on Wearside. And this has alerted Marseille and his former club Paris St-Germain. But O'Neill insists both he and owner Ellis Short are keen to strengthen the Black Cats squad in the summer. O'Neill said: "Stephane Sessegnon has been playing brilliantly. I doubt he could play like he has if he's unhappy. "Other managers speak highly of Stephane, and that just goes to show how well he has done for us this season. "But it is certainly the owner's view that any quality player we have, we want to keep. We want to move forward - I don't think there's any other way."
I think its the same position Newcastle are in with tiote, cabaye, Ba and Ben Arfa if someone comes in with silly money they are off.
It's been this way for both our clubs for a very long time. Those of you with long memories will remember players like Todd , Baxter , Gazza , McDonald etc being lured away by big money deals. It's dog eat dog and we're not the biggest dogs in the yard
Indeed but we can counteract that by qualifying for the CL. I doubt many would leave then (maybe Ba). Even the Europa could help us retain the big players. Of course if someone offers 25m for Tiote then you have a decision to make. A whole lot less pressure on Ashley though if he sees 40m on the horizon.
