some of this is probably old news to some, but 1st time ive heard them speak live so thought id share for those who are interested..

    brown on duffen:

some people may think a chairman who never says no is a great thing, but in hindsight it isnt, it gives you no perspective and makes you lose reality a touch, all managers need to hear no at some point..

paul had ambition and goals, he just got into bed with the wrong people, he swam with the sharks and got out of his depth

    on turner:
i was told 8 million plus a player, when i heard it was nearer 4 million i was angry, but that was from over my head, there was nothing i could do..

    on jay jay okocha:
when we signed him, there where journalists from every country, he raised the profile of hull city and got us nearer the premier league without even kicking a ball..

on fabregas: i saw him spit at brian 100%, im disgusted we invite a player from abroad, and he acts like this and our own fa protect him ( a claim backed up by ash, who stopped just short of admitting he almost pummeled him in the tunnel)

    on bullard:
we all knew it was a risk, but thats what we did, it could have turned out to be great, unfortuantely it didnt...

on barmby: was quite surprised to see him get the role, but with patience and the fans behind him, in no doubht he will get us back to the premier league..

adamant he would have kept us up if he wasnt given the sack, alluded too he thought pearson acted too rash, and more or less said duffen was too soft and pearson a bit harsh and ideally needed a balance between the two...

ash didnt say a great deal, but did admit that brown gave the place a massive lift after parky, said the greatest player hed ever played against was gerrard, the best he played with was okocha, and the worst was junior lewis...
ash also said he was given little choice but to leave and it was made clear to him by pearson he didnt have a great future at the club..
also admitted he didnt understand sacking phil to replace him with dowie..

it was also interesting to hear, in the play off final, wayne brown had a calf problem after 40 mins and wanted to come off, but brown was wary of windass and barmbys age and was worried about making another sub, especially with the lack of cover, so he asked wayne to carry on, but adapted the tactics from breaking out of defence, to defending deep ( which me and my mate have always wondered why we couldnt get out our own half in the 2nd half)

also brown admitted he managed the backroom and day to day running, but ash mainly managed the dressing room..this interested me as it is one thing i think we are missing presently, a genuine leader/general in the playing ranks....

maybe a lot was said could be taken with a pinch of salt, but i went into the night loving them both and still do, you can see browns eyes light up whenever he talks about us and the great moments like the emirates, and while ash was a little more reserved you could still see how much we meant to him..
the comedian was funny and i managed to get a photo with them both, so i left very happy, with them both still on the highest pedestal possible in the hull city rankings for me
2 absolute legends, simple as that!

Pair of them will always be legends in my eyes, what i'd give to have the Ash of 4 years ago in this team now and to be fair, i'd prob take Phil Brown, knowing what he knows now, back

Another interesting thing Brownie said was that he thought there was a SKY conspiracy to get City out of the Premiership after the Man City half time sit down talk. Gave disallowed penalty against Villa as an example. Also, Burnsy referred him to an apparent betting coup when he was sacked after the Arsenal game during which Boateng was strangely sent off for poking someone in the eye. Agree, very enjoyable evening.

A chairman who never said no, not what any club needs. If Duffen reappears at another club if I was one of their fans I would be extremely worried.

If Brown gets a future managerial job at a championship club (say Wolves) with a chairman who is willing to back him up to a point in terms of transfer fees etc I would be interested to see how he does, and whether Ashbee would be his number 2.

Thanks for the review, would have loved to have been there but hubby working and other things for money to be spent on unfortunately. Can't help loving Phil no matter what he got us into. Saw him when he was still manager for us at the Reserves game against Man Utd at Ferriby. Absolutely packed that night and he was just wandering around in his flat cap saying hello to people. Still so sad that Ash went the way he did, just so so wrong. Not sure which Pearson you mean but if it was Nige then how dare he come to this club for a short period of time and kick Captain Fantastic out when Ash did more for Hull City then Pearson ever could. I remember when Ash came out of the tunnell playing for Preston and I just wanted to cry, the worst ever decision by anyone. I know he would not have played a big part in our matches but just his presence around the place and the lift he could have given everyone and the fact he deserved a testimonial and a proper farewell by the supporters. Rant over.

Sorry but is that the same manager who in 08 /09 season only won 7 league games then the following season only won 5 before been put on gardening leave .

I'd have loved to have asked his opinion on Wayne Brown's public comments that after the Wigan loss at home he dropped him and never spoke to him face-to-face again. Wayne went on to say that as soon as Phil took over at PNE he knew his days were numbered and, sure enough, the only words he spoke to him were "you can now have Saturday's off".

I'm not having a go at Phil here btw, it's one side of a story and as I said I'd like to hear his reponse.

Also would love to hear his personal triumphs - saving a doomed team and then one year later getting them promoted via wembley is obvious but what else did he see as particular feats? And also regrets - perhaps the Humber Bridge embarrassment, saying to a packed press conference that he hopes Geovanni fails his drug test - that kind of thing.

If I managed North Ferriby in the PL and they lost every game, am I a bad manager?

If a manager gets City to the PL and every single neutral pundit is adamant we will go straight back down, probably breaking Derby's record low points record and even most City fans aren't bold enough to suggest we could stay up, then he keeps us there against all the odds and almost repeats the feat a second time a year later, is he a bad manager?

The fact is we were one of the smallest clubs in that divisions and finishing 19th was exactly what was expected of us, how does that mean the manager did a bad job?

I agree with pierredelafranchesca that they will both always be legends for us. Ash absolutely deserves some kind of farewell from the fans at some point. It seems weird that Dawson will get a testimonial next summer and yet Ashbee gets no recognition. It was a crying shame the way Ashbee left the club.

brown admitted the singing was probably a step too far , especially after a defeat, but he said it just hit him what had happened, we had stayed up, no matter how we did it..
he said he didnt feel the players, fans, critics realised this because of the poor run we finished with, the team who where tipped to go down with a record low points total avoided relegation and he just wanted people to realise this and share what was an amazing feat.

I'd still defend that to be honest. He didn't deliberately do it on telly, he did it in our stadium to celebrate with our fans, as you've said he achieved what was thought completely impossible by almost everyone and we got some insane results along the way. The cameras picked up on it and made a big thing about it and how much he loves himself, as if it was anything to do with them! It wasn't for the country to see it was for us. If they want to record it then fine but they can't start moaning that he's showing off to the whole country.

I loved his singing- I was in tears as it was very moving. The guy was celebrating for goodness' sake, it was a great moment!!! I also enjoyed his "half-time rant". What is wrong with people? It's a pity the papers and the "so-called" journalists didn't check out their own "dirty washing."

I know everyone on here takes stuff Burns says with a pinch of salt but he said that in his opinion if on 1st May when talks are supposedly going to take place about what money is available to Nick. If there is nothing in the kitty to bring in the players he wants then he and Adam will walk because promises had been broken. In that scenario wouldn't Phil and possibly Ash jump at the chance to be involved with City again.

I sincerely hope that they do not walk and that we do not have to have Brown back at the club. Without Horton Brownie is screwed and I still think big sam was helping him at the start because as soon as Sam got a job we began the decline.IMO

Barmby will not walk away, he has just started this project and everything he has done will be undone by any new manager, and make everything we have done this year completely pointless. It is clear that their is no money available, read Adam Pearson's notes today in the programme and every interview he has done recently, it doesn't take a genius to work out there is no money to spend. So i think Nick will already know.
