Getting a little worried about LDV now, that's now Exeter and Dundee Utd where he's failed to cut the mustard, and quickly faded after a promising start at Bournemouth. Surely by now he should be showing at least some sort of future potential ala Frei, Kaka and Trotta?
I agree with Bandit. I had high hopes for him after his start at Bournemouth, but I can't escape the feeling that if he was going to come good it would have happened by now. I think he's got one more year on his contract, and I wouldn't be surprised to see us just releasing him this time next year if something dramatic doesn't happen soon.
I can see another loan spell on the horizon, but the question is where to send him? He's tried and failed in League One so the Championship is out of the question, and he's failed to produce any sort of impact in the SPL. Maybe a European team like Danny Hoesen?
Agreed with all, he doesn't look promising. The high standards set by the aforementioned don't help him.
It's strange, if you had asked me out of the two, LDV or Kaka who would be the first to make his debut for us in the PL I'd have put a lot of money on LDV. He came with a reputation from Liverpool as being the best finisher at the club and in the mold of Torres whereas not much was made of Kaka. Funny how things turn out.
Hmmm, he doesn't seem to be a happy bunny. Last weekend he came on for Exeter after 65mins. when they were 2-0 up but was taken off after 85mins. when they had been pulled back to 2-2. Not saying it was his fault but something wasn't right. A while back I heard awhisper that L'pool let him go because there were suggestions that he was prone to pull out of tackles. With the others that are around - as well as the one's you mention Bandit, there is Mesca, Tankovic, Gameiro - can't see Jol and Co having too much patience.
I think you're right 58, we have a few decent young strikers at the club, and if Pog joins permanently then there really won't be any need to keep LDV on. I heard he also missed an absolute sitter against Scunthorpe last week which Exeter lost 1-0.
The lack of enthusiasm for the physical side of the game fits with what I saw of him playing for Bournemouth a year ago. I was hoping that was something he was going to develop, but maybe not.
Maybe Jol can put him and Ruiz on some special diet to bulk him up? Nigel Adkins did this for Rickie Lambert and Billy Sharp, and look at them now.
Apart from Dalla Valle, returning to us without seeming to sparkle at his loan clubs, does anyone know how the others out on loan are doing, ie Richard Peniket, and Danny Hoesen
Hoesen seems to have done well - 13 goals in 28 appearances. There's a video floating around somewhere (YouTube?) of some of his goals. Peniket went to Hereford in November and has since made 4 starts and 3 sub appearances without scoring so doesn't sound like he's made much of an impact.
we mugged liverpool with the konch deal, getting kaka who looks a prospect, to give us 2 good players is expecting to much really,if 1 out of 2 makes it then we have done very well, especially as konch now plays in the championship
I've been racking my brains trying to think of the other player we got in that deal! What an acquisition!
Ha, yeah, I used a dab of Wiki to verify travellers info (no disrespect). But it was one of those questions you think about when you have no Googling vessel to hand...
