Ryan Giggs has won five penalties in his full Man Utd career. Full respect to a fantastic player who tries to keep on his feet and actually score rather than act like Willem Defoe in Platoon. That's about one every three/four years which when you look at how and where he plays is a pretty amazing stat. No wonder Fergy has had a word with Young.
I wonder how Fryatt's stats compare? It seems defenders can do what they like to him, not only does he never get penalties but he never even seems that bothered
it's nothing new, Jurgen Klinnsman anyone? Gerrard is the worst as a player that talented shouldn't need to con refs
Gerrard comes to mind for me too, but there are so many of them doing it now that half the time it actually looks like a genuine pen, Ashley Young over did the dramatic fall but at least it's brought the issue of cheating up and maybe something might get done about it, especially after the Drogba dramatics the other night. Maybe the fourth official should be put to good use and tell the ref to issue a ten-minute sin-bin to players taking the piss?
The way Gerrard cheats can easily be stopped. He started this thing of falling on top of the ball and grabbing hold of it with his hands, it's almost like a challenge to the ref "Give me a freekick or penalise me for handball." He basically awards himself the free kick. The easy way to stop it is for the refs to grow a pair and just give handball against him. You see loads of players copying it lately in this division and it pisses me right off!
If you think Man U don't get dubious calls going their way then you are blind. Ashley Young deserves the bellend of the week award and there seems to be many posters here who support Man U as their second team.
Chris Gunter must be a prime candidate for it this weekend. He spent half the first half throwing himself on the floor for nothing, or rolling around on the floor holding his head when the impact was side on side, and then decided to just hack Garcia down straight after the only firm challenge he was involved in with him. Bonus points must be given for: 1) Being a defender and being such a fairy when usually it's strikers that do that. 2) Going on to score the own goal. (I was hoping at the time it was him so I was glad to see it confirmed when I got home) and 3) staying on his feet the one time he was probably actually fouled, despite being in the penalty area at the time.
