Player of the Season awards thingy after the game tomorrow, so who has been your PotY and who do you think will win it? I think Chester has been far and away our best player this season, with Hobbs second and McKenna probably third (though over the last month or so I've started to wonder if the team is better off without him, strangely) But for some reason I just think Koren will win it. In my opinion he's scored some great goals but been quiet too often, as is so often the case with these 'something from nothing' kind of players. Also, goal of the season? I liked the Cairney one against Ipswich and also Koren V Leicester. Thoughts?
i think hobbs will win it, but i think koren should.. his short absence across march showed we are effectively useless without him.
Hard to pick between the two central defenders I'd go for Hobbs. We knew what to expect from Chester and he's lived up to those expectations and possibly exceeded them, but Hobbs has become a rock for us alongside Chester and he's made a mockery of his critics earlier on in the season. We've seen him develop as a player as the season has gone on, and the fact he received his injury from a goal saving tackle speaks volumes of his commitment to the team. Second choice would be Chester, Third choice Mckenna. Goal of the season would be Koren's winner against Leicester.
I'm not so sure about that, we didn't score goals when he was injured but we weren't scoring before then either. We started shipping goals with him and to be honest we're still conceding them now, which I would put more down to Chester/Hobbs' injuries at the same time. We did completely stop making chances when Koren was out though and I guess that could have been down to him. Doesn't really make sense though as he's hardly been involved since coming back.
Chezzy for me. He's been solid all season. I think with Hobbs there is still room for improvement same with Koren I'd like to see him get stuck in a bit more but thats me being a bit picky. 1, Chester 2, Mckenna 3, Hobbs Goal of the season either Koren v leicester or Mclean v forest away not the most spectacular but important at the time.
That McLean one V Forest away was a great strike. A bit sloppy defensively but that is how a proper striker should hit the ball. Powerful and straight in the corner. For a while I thought he had been a bit unlucky with some half-chances that had come at him quickly because he's obviously capable of some decent hits (based on this goal and also Coventry away last season) but I got a bit tired of defending him after the Coventry home game when he miscontrolled a simple ball off the pitch and didn't even notice when a chance came his way in the box. I'm surprised there's only two of us going for Chester.
Chester will get it, and Koren vs Leicester will be goal of the season by a mile because it's popularity rather than performance that wins these things. (all of Koren's goals being virtually the same thing, the voting would be quite equal if one of them hadn't been against Leicester on NP's return) It's possibly worth noting that Fryatt has matched the goalscoring of Campbell and Windass in the last promotion and isn't even in the running for the award.
Neither were they. I remember some of the players voted for Campbell but the main one was always going to be Turner.
Chester for me I think he has been absolute Quality . I can count on one hand the amount of mistakes he has made this season , his positional play , his last ditch tackles , his attitude. For me the difference between him and Hobbs is Chester can play as well as defend, he looks relaxed on the ball ,can pick a pass and carry the ball up the field. Koren for goal of the season against Leicester, the strike ,the timing and Pearsons return .PERFECT
How far behind were they though? Given the MOTM award might has well have been renamed the Fraizer Campbell appreciation telethon he can't have been too far off in a public vote, and Windass had his popularity as Windass. I can't believe that neither of them were in the top 3. Fryatt on the other hand doesn't seem to have a mention and would probably be comfortably behind Chester, Hobbs, Rosenior, McKenna, and Koren.
I'd say: Chester Hobbs Koren as my top 3, with goal of the season being Koren v Leicester. Obviously the quality of the goal was up there, but the importance at the time, as well as the emotions when it flew it means it got to be the one for me!
Chester Rosenoir Hobbs You can't exactly hail any of the attacking players apart from Fryatt because they haven't been great this season.
Has to be Koren for me, he's the heart of the team and without him we are average at best, everything goes through him or in by him. Chester not far off though. My goal of the season would've been the one against Millwall by Koren but seen as though it's not shortlisted I'd go Chester vs. Cardiff as it's a great effort by Chezzy and a good team goal, but no doubt it will be the Leicester one.
You think Koren has hardly been involved since coming back ?? He's the heartbeat of the team. His very presence makes teams set out different when they play us. His movement and vision create chances as well as space, which without him are non existent. He hasn't scored and I don't think he's had any direct assists but seven points from nine ( after five defeats on the bounce) would suggest that his involvement may be greater than you think.
That last part probably sums it up, he can't always have a direct impact but perhaps he's giving defenders something to think about that creates an extra half a yard for Fryatt even if they succeed in marking him. All I meant was that as you say, he hasn't really come close to scoring for what seems like ages now and he hasn't really been involved in creating goals either lately. I'm not knocking him or anything just saying he's been kept quiet in the last few games. Who would your vote go to?
