In a letter emailed to the ECHO, Sir Richard explained that more could be done to accomodate Liverpool FC fans.The letter reads: âThe decision by the FA to schedule the Cup Final on a Bank Holiday weekend and start at 5.15pm rather than the traditional 3pm has been made for the FAâs commercial reasons at the expense of the travelling football fan.âAs is now customary on Bank Holiday weekends, the line is partly closed for improvement work. âThis is Network Railâs massive renewal programme, scheduled more than two years ago, which will improve reliability on the line."The FA were told of these plans and of the impact of a late kick off, but chose to ignore the advice of Virgin Trains and Network Rail. âIf the FA had engaged with the industry we could have worked out a range of options well ahead of time and timed the match to minimise the disruption. âI agree with Transport Secretary Justine Greening who said in the Commons today that the timing of the match is the underlying problem.ââVirgin Trains carries around 100,000 people every day and our customers have changed plans to accommodate these closures. Just highlights how ridiculous the FA are, can't really fault the rail networks if it was planned 2 years ago. I don't buy any of the bullshit of Euro preparations either, one extra game after the end of the season would not do any harm.

FA could easily have started the season a week earlier and plaed the final on the 12th, if this is the case. Then played the Trophy final at a time around that.
I see one startlingly obvious problem with your argument...this would have required the FA to have someone working at FA HQ who is intelligent and actually gave a **** about something other than TV revenues Hardly likely now is it.
Even then they only care about fans in the south, the kick off time would be fine if you could guarantee that two southern teams were going to be in the Cup Final every year, which clearly isn't the case as Liverpool are there this year.
I work in the railway industry and tbh I can't stand VWC. But Branson (and NR) are totally right on this one. It was planned at least a year ago (not surprised it's two) and FA have known for a year. They were just praying there'd be no North West team in the final. Utter incompetent, corrupt, sh!theads: and they have the temerity to hold kangaroo courts and point the finger at others for affecting the reputation of English football.
If I was the managing director at Megabus right now I would have £ signs in my eyes. Fantastic opportunity for them to start football fan travel packages out.
