Of course we should go for 3rd. I am ust saying would you take 4th or risk it and still have the chance to finish 3rd when it could mean we end up 5th with nothing.
I know we are but we should be mentally more stronger than this now. This team has been together for many years now and they've tasted top 4 each and every year. They should now be aiming for the league title and not for another top 4 finish. If this team continues to have this mindset then we might as well forget about winning anything.....
But thats the big problem. Why should we settle for 4th if the team is good enough to keep 3rd? How will this team ever challenge if it has this defeatest attitude, even us fans have it now!
Depends who would finish 3rd? If Newcastle, then I could probably take it but if the spuds got there it would be very difficult to take!
We've got to be aiming to secure our 3rd spot, the difference between 3rd and 4th is massive in terms of CL qualification and as SJW19 said - we can then go into the transfer window knowing that we'd have CL revenue to spend on the squad. That said, they way some fans were predicting us to finish well outside of the Top 4 this season and our early season aberration, 4th would still be a good achievement for this season.
I wasn't confident we'd make top6 early on we were that bad, 4th or better is a wonderful recovery. We can't let this season happen again. Flying start required.
I can't stress the importance for us securing 3rd place, and building upon it for next season. Should we collapse and scrape to 4th, it will only be detrimental to our confidence going into next season...So we should walk into this weekends game against Chelsea and look for a victory and no less....
Our run in record over the past 2 seasons is not great; 2011 3 pts from the last 4 games 2010 2 pts from the last 4 games after losing to Wigan and QPR it doesn't inspire confidence. We'll probably need another 6 points to get 3rd spot so the odds are fairly even. Lose tomorrow and we're on the slide, i'd take a guaranteed 4th spot right now.
I defiantly would not take 4th right now, sometimes to win, you have to dare to lose. Its time for this team to repay the fans support and prove that they are not perennial bottlers, or they can close the door on their way out of the club, its as simple as that, in fact if I were wenger I would probably tell the whole team that, perform or leave.
