“If it doesn’t happen this year we’ve got to rebuild in the summer and get the right players that can get us out of this division”

But hasn't he signed or resigned the majority of the squad??

Smells of a desperate attempt to pass the blame...

We have the right players to get us out of this league. We have a great set of players in my opinion, they can compete at higher levels- shown in the F.A cup, yet we don't have the right manager to get us out of this poxy league. Simple really!

BSG - I read/heard that report and was really disappointed, precisely for the reasons you have stated.

In these final two home games I want to see a Leeds and Southampton style display and subsequent results from the team, just do not go and do a Wycombe at Northampton.

If he can not deliver then I will be resigned to a FOURTH season in league two. Personally if I was the chairman, I would be thinking, wait a minute I have just given you two seasons to rebuild, you failed to achieve target in both seasons despite being given a budget (which I did not expect at the beginning of the season) and you still need to rebuild and want further budget?

Some of the worst possible words in that interview I have heard this season...

    Injuries.
    It takes time.
    It dosen't happen over night.
We should be in the top three.

and I saved the best until last...
    Managers come and go!

I think he can have one more chance, but if we cannot go up then he will have to go, no excuse.

Teams that go up to the Championship are good at Back to back look at Norwich and now Soton probably.

Hoadie - and this is our problem, just because we spent time in the Championship does not mean we should be comparing ourselves with the likes of Norwich and Southampton. Also I did not see what you said as what iffy meant.

I took his reference as to the likes of Stevenage, I still remember them at our place a couple of seasons back. Not quite sure I can agree on Crawley though.

I'm no Gillingham glory hunter, all I am asking of Hessy is to deliver what he promised. I would have been far happier at the beginning of the season if we had cut our costs and just maintained our status in league two, because at the end of the day that is all I was originally expecting and that is all Hessy has done.

The club are responsible for raising the supporters expectations, in the same way has already started to happen for next season. So do not blame the fans when they become your critics.

I am not saying that we should be getting back to back promotions, I was just adding onto the point that some teams that have been in certain leagues before can get back there, we will do it, we will get back to League 1 and maybe just maybe one day back to the Championship.

Yes but with respect that says to me you are comparing us to Norwich and Southampton.

Norwich and Southampton are where they are because they would be able to afford to hold on to players such as Cody McDonald and Bayo Akinfenwa. Also I expect the likes of Andy Barcham would be happy to play for them. I have never seen our club as within the same financial means but what money we are spending is wasted on what we have achieved against targets set. Look at Frank Nouble and Jordan Obita, I wonder what the reaction would have been if the said clubs came in for them.

Now we are going to be believing a third season of promises! I can remember the days when the manager promised nothing but his best and the fans expected nothing. These days they want to charge us a fortune to watch the club we love, we are being taken for a marketing ride, I do not want to hear what I see as some promotional offer from a manager as though he is do a tv advert in the same way as promoting one of our big supermarket chains. Just get on with doing the job and represent that with the promised actions on the pitch or shut up.

brb be is right Hess is a victim of his own hype, all that "anything short of promotion" spout last season hasn't helped the situation

He's (Hess) has also said some players are unhappy so they will have to move on. Obviously he didn't name names, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are some of the players he signed and are unhappy because he told them we would get promotion and they would be playing in League 1 next season. He obviously didn't tell them about his managerial incompetence. I wonder if a couple could be Lee and Whelpdale? Lee was unhappy the other week when he seemed to have a spat with Hess on the pitch about tactics and someone said that Whelpdale seemed to be questioning Hess about where he was meant to be playing, I think that was in the Dagenham game.

As for Bayo.........he didn't exactly do a 'runner' to a decent club!!!!

Seat warming on the bench for Mr McDonald at a team dropping into League One.........

Not exactly the footballing heights of aspiration.

Windy - that's not fair on Cody - he was with Norwich as they went into the EPL. Unfortunately he was then seen as unwanted by Norwich. We couldn't afford him. Cody went looking for regular football - at Coventry - who deserve their relegation for failing to use Cody in the same way as we did - playing off an old fashioned big centre forward - He'd be scoring goals for fun. I may agree with you about Bayo - but not Cody M.

Bayo went because it was a 2yr deal at Northampton, he is getting on now and needs/needed the security of a longer term deal

For me, Hess has until Christmas to sort out the form of the team. We all know full well that these lads are good enough to go up and to be missing out on the top seven is a scandel given the money spent. This season saw us as top scorers so it's obvious to see where the problem is. In the summer we need to make one signing; a propper assistance manager with defencive coaching skills. Get that right and I can see us at the top of the league this time next year.

WINDYROG - in regards to Cody, it was out of his hands. Norwich didn't appear to want him and I believe there was an article reporting the manager using words to that affect. Basically Cody was left in no man land with Norwich being greedy. I actually felt sorry for him at the time, as they were asking for some ridiculous fee for him that I cannot now remember. Other clubs in the Championship were even dropping out of the deals due to the Canaries being stubborn over the transfer fee. Although cannot remember what deal was done for him to go to Coventry.

I meant no disrespect to Cody at all. I was outlining the difficulties that clubs like Gillingham face in the open market. I have said before that getting the likes of another 'super bob' Taylor for £600,000 are long gone.

With overblown (short term) hype that abounds which boost fees astronomically, that fee now, in the main, buys mediocrity. Whelpdale and Lee are the exception and we are lucky to have them.....and Hess to thank.
