View attachment 12795 vs Having secured promotion last weekend with a 1-0 win up at Carlisle courtesy of a Bradley Wright-Phillips goal, Charlton can now wrap up the league title this weekend if they beat Wycombe and Sheffield United lose to Mk Dons. Wycombe were unable to win last weekend at drew 2-2 at home to Oldham a team who had lost their last 5 without scoring. When these two sides met earlier in the season Charlton were the ones who took home all 3 points. Charlton stormed into an early lead when Wright-Phillips scored in the 6th minute. Wright-Phillips then doubled Charlton's lead just before the brake with a goal in the 41st minute. Stuart Beavon did pull one goal back for Wycombe just past the hour mark but Charlton's defense proved to strong and they were able to see out the game as 2-1 winners. Wycombe currently occupy 21st place and the last relegation spot in league 1. They have 43 points from their 43 games and are 3 points for safety. They have only lost 2 of the last 10 games but have only picked up 14 points in the process, however when your near the bottom every point is valuable. I can't help but feel sorry for Wycombe over the whole Paul Hayes loan deal and can't help but think Paul Hayes would of been more use to them than us in the business end of the season. Also if we beat the Chairboys and Sheff Utd draw, which looks quite possible given that the Franchise have only conceded one goal per match at home. Would be nice to finish it this Saturday. We could come unstuck at Preston and we don't want it to come down to the last match. A couple of deflections (a la Stevenage and Orient) or a silly sending-off, and nerves could start jangling.
Nice one Belv. 1-0 to us - Jacko pen or free-kick. Got feeling that Sheff U will win every game from now on in - they;'re certainly on a roll, and we'll clinch the title against Preston. I wonder if Sheff U could become the first team to get to 100 points and not win the title ?
The blunts continued progress may well revolve around a jury currently sitting in Wales. If Evans is found guilty I doubt he will play again this season (even if they lodge an appeal) and that could have a significant effect on the squad morale. If he is found innocent then they will almost certainly go on and get to 100 points (and hopefully not win the title). The jury is, according to the BBC, currently out on this case.
I am banking on MK getting a point, but it isn't beyond Utd to get all 3 points. Still, I think this is the weekend we win the league (I hope I haven't jinxed it). Agree about the same team, but if Waggy is available then I'd like him on the bench as an option to run at Basey should we need a spark. As for score, I think it will be 3-1. Possibly 1-1 at HT with a few nerves, but then we'll push on and show our quality.
6-0 charlton or 3-2 wycombe take your pick,we never know which wycombe team is turning up from one week to the next.have a good day but please can we have the points.good luck for next season lads
Came down last night in apocalyptic deluge conditions - never seen so many rainbows in my life. I want the win and the title today -such a pity it's Wycombe. 2-0 to us.
No offense Rocky, but I'm quite keen for Walsall to stay up. They came to our place and tried to play a game of football, unlike many of the 'park the bus' teams we've met this season. I can also remember being stoned off the terraces at Adams Park when I went there with Dartford for an FA Trophy game. The stone throwers were Chelsea nanderthals (their match was snowed off) but it made for an unpleasant visit, not helped by a 6-1 scoreline. Having said all that, I've a soft spot for the chairboys (any one with a nickname like that deserves some decent results) and if we can win the league while you lot knock the 'O's into league two, we can all be happy.
