United boss Neil Warnock says work "behind the scenes" is well underway as he looks to re-build for a promotion challenging campaign.

The boss says a deal is all-but agreed for one new arrival during the first week in May and he is hoping to move quickly as he looks to build a squad capable of reaching the Premier League in May 2013.

"We're hoping to make our first signing by the end of the first week in May, and there'll be a number after that," said the boss.

"There'll be a lot of action in the summer. We have to change a number of things. The chairman has said he will do his best to support me and we need an influx of new blood.

"I'm very close to making a couple of signings and I want to crack on. There'll be quite a lot happen these next few days behind the scenes and the sooner the better really. We all know what's needed, but I can't fault the effort the lads here have given me."

The King is dead. Long live the King.

Just got to go with what he says for now and if it doesn't happen we can have a rant... I'm positive he will make the right signings - They dont have to be pricey just hardworking and desperate to pull the shirt on... Its keeping players that concern me...

All Warnocks managed so far is turn an average team within touching distance of the playoffs into a poor team devoid of any confidence and left them floundering in mid table eleven points off sixth place.
I was excited by his appointment, but I think he's taken the 'these aren't my players therefore they're no good' approach a bit too far. It's all very well rubbishing the squad to build himself a case for increased funding for next season, but I feel he brought a negative vibe to the place prematurely. A bit more positivity from the start could have seen us with an extra ten points on the board and still everything to play for. if we then still fell short of promotion he could have voiced his concerns at the end of the season, but it seems to me he was just covering his own back. Surely any manager worth his salt would hit the ground running with whatever squad he inherited. Does the fact he needs his own players around him or else it won't work make him a good manager?
He still has my full support but he's done nothing so far to suggest we're in for a good season next time. We're scoring a lot less and conceding the same as before. The fact they're not 'his' players shouldn't be used as an excuse. It's been disappointing.
Play the cards you were dealt with Colin.

You may have a point LiE, but there's also the fact that we've got a habit of dying towards the end of a season anyway. One other point NW has mentioned is that the team is not fit enough, and tbh, there are signs of that at times (but not alwas). The jury is still out, but I still trust NW.

Might be that the team is gash and Grayson was somehow making the best of a bad job and looking at getting us in the playoffs. He's not a magician, you can't polish a turd and I'm not expecting any transfer activity worthy of note. I'm expecting a playoff contending team at best next season. If the almighty bates decides by his good graces that we are allowed a few players this season just to keep us morons quiet, I'd expect a "why build an automatic promotion contending team when you can get a playoff team for cheaper?" philosophy.

I have completely lost all hope. How people can expect any different when the problem has not been fixed, I will never know. bates is like the mechanic who fixes everything except what's actually wrong with the car just to keep you coming back to his garage to spend money.

Trust Warnock all you want, but I wouldn't blame him for not catching the knife heading for my balls because his hands were tied behind his back. Same logic applies.

Won't matter a damn what he does, the same depression will always prevail among the same on this board. A cheery bunch

Eire, I am a very positive person and was, for a long time, behind bates shrewd business policies, seeing that it was stabilising the club. Until I realised they weren't shrewd and they weren't stabilising the club.

I was just thinking earlier today that if LUST could gather enough money together we could hire a PI to investigate the transfer dealings over the summer, reporting back any and all numbers, names, conditions, anything bates, harvey or Warnock has said or done.

Nah, too many witnesses. In my experience, you need a rich individual to make it happen (based on loads of crime movies I've watched over the years! <doh>).
