Josh Walker is leaving us for Scunthorpe United. http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp.../9659450.Walker_to_join_the_Iron_permanently/ Is this a good move for us him or Scunthorpe? He never really got a chance at Watford but was that because of ability or luck?
He warmed the bench for Stevenage so Id say he simply isn't good enough for the Championship. We got him on a free so no real harm done.
True indeed, and wage bill down a smidge unless his contract was up. At least he has found a home it must be a bit daunting going on loan to a lot of clubs....good luck to him.
I blame my mate - he sponsored his shirt for a season and he never recovered. Trouble is he now sponsors Forsyth!..
I suppose we'll just have to add him to the ever growing list of why-did-we-evers - the inexplicable loans & purchases list that is home to names such as Trotta, Noble, Hoskins, Mirfin, Drinkwater, Rose, Bridcutt etc etc I'm sure there are lots more, but others can fill in the blanks.
Well Trotta was unlucky, Deeney and Iwelumo hit a bit of form and it would have been crazy to drop them. I agree that Dishwater was useless, but he is doing ok now. Mirfin was purely cover, but was crap. The rest were a bit meh.
Hoskins was banging the goals in for fun just before we signed him, so that one at least made sense. Drinkwater was a Man Utd player who had a successful spell at Huddersfield, so that one also made sense (at the time). Torotta had scored 8 goals in 8 games for Wycombe before we got him. It's easy to question signings with hindsight, not so easy when we initially sign them.
Of course it is - that's as plain as the nose on Cyrano de Bergerac's face - but it doesn't stop the question 'Why?' from being perfectly valid. The main point was that very few of those listed were given much of a chance. Mirfin made four appearances, Del Boy made one fifth of an appearance - one fifth more than Noble. Arguably, Hoskins was the only one to receive an opportunity to prove his worth, but sixty appearances over four years doesn't say much for that chance. I'd be on safe ground saying that some Chelsea fans are now less than thrilled with the signing of Torres, who was also banging goals in for fun just before they signed him, but at least he is being given a chance by Chelsea - the aforementioned names weren't IMO.
Why make signings in the first place? Whenever a player becomes too old to play at that level why not just replace him with one of the players who has come through our youth system???
i didn't ever understand why we didn't play Josh Walker. Having seen him play a few times, he looked good to me...all over the pitch, accurate passing..not sure what went on there. As for useless signings, don't forget that defender who's name escapes me..but he's doing quite well now, he was just complete rubbish at our place! just realised how ironic that sentence is!
Seemed to be a bit of an attitude problem. He's been around for several managers none of whom played him, so that would suggest the player was the problem.
Just not good enough for the Championship it seems if he couldn't make the Stevenage team. On paper the signing made sense, someone rejected from the Middleborough youth academy, which don't forget produced Danny Graham, had made lots of appearence for Boro when they were in the Premier League. Best of luck to him at Scunthorpe. Hornette, you weren't thinking about Cedric Avinel were you??? Was at the club under Boothroyd, made about 1 appearence in three years....now what really was the point in him???
