In January, the Daily Mail claimed that Liverpool were prepared to open the bidding at £8m, and were 'willing to put together a package that suits both player and his family in a bid to convince him to remain in the Premier League'.

Almost choked there, let me get this right, Liverpool were prepared to open the bidding at £8M! Is this the same Liverpool who paid £16M for Hendo and £36M for Carrol? The only way Sess will be leaving is for silly money and if he wants to go for personal reasons (Family), I honestly think MON will get him to stay for another season (I hope).

The Daily Mail has, in my opinion, got the worst reputation of the lot when it comes to printing ****e...
To be honest, the state that Liverpool are in at present, I think that any decent footballer should think very hard before signing for them..

Undoubtedly bids for Sess are likely, if he is now settled here, cos' his family are coming or he is happy cos' his family will not come and he does not miss the ball and chain OK. But everyone has his price. If there are several clubs after him a bidding war could drive the price up, but if the offers are not enough and he is not bothered about leaving (+ anew contract?) . I am sure MoN will try and hang onto him, in part he left Villa cos' his best players were being sold

Robbie Earle is clearly a plum, as if he'd actually WATCHED Sess, he'd know he is far less effective out wide.

How can he be compared to Downing, for **** sake!

£8M is a joke bid in today's market. OK, LFC don't have the Torres money to flash, but that's their problem. They should be starting in the £12-15 bracket IMHO, but I can't see us wanting to sell. Unfortunately, I CAN see Sess wanting to go, but that's another issue altogether...

The minimum we would want/accept would be the fee we paid and salary paid to him ...

as you say, if he wants to go then he will be gone!

I think he will go, and tbh im not that bothered as its what we have to do, no one is going to be £35mil for 1 of our players, lets be honest, Carroll might have been worth 1/4 of that at best, Newcastle just got really lucky with all the circumstances surrounding that transfer.

With the FFP rules, we are going to have to sell, to buy, gone are the days when a rich owner can just throw 100 million into a club to buy players, that they would not have been able to afford, without the interest free loan.

If we get 15-20 million for Sess, 15-20 million + the 6 million loan for Gyan, then sell some of the fringe players and even a couple of 1st teamers for 15-25 million, then thats a canny warchest.

Problem is, who is on MONs radar, if he does go for young, English players they come at a premium, and we cant really afford (time wise) to be getting another Whickam, but will he go abroad? he is not renowned for doing it, but looing at them up the road, its what we may have do do, I just hope we have the scouting network out there to do so.

Personally i think we will be fine, ut i cant see sess with us next year, but then with the FFP its probably for the best.

    <yikes>

I think what people need to remember when valuing players is that you simply can't compare players to Carroll, Torres, Henderson etc. Chelsea's £50 million cash for Torres warped the entire market, and the prices that went around during that time are not representative of actual values.

Every player has their price. Sessegnon is a canny players but he isn't a top 4 one imo.

That said, there is a huge lack of really talented players out there, hence the likes of Carroll and Henderson going for daft money. Therefore, when genuinely quite talented ones come along, you can get bloody silly money for them.

If Liverpool, or anyone are really serious, or the player himself wants away, starting bids imo should start at £20m and go upwards.

If no one is willing to pay it, then he goes nowhere. End of story.

My valuations are not unreasonable at all, so not sure where the hell you are coming from cheik tbh.

and its the way both of our clubs will survive for a few years yet, buy to sell, unless we both get into the CL year after year and win the thing.

I feel they are, Liverpool spent mad money last January/summer (Chelsea's money) and that affected the market as everyone had extra money to throw about. All that money's gone now, so prices will revert back to how they were before. Ben Arfa = 5million. If you lot think Sessegnon is 4X better than Ben Arfa then go ahead..

I dont but i think if you sold Ben Arfa now you would get 15 to 20 million for him from one of the big clubs.

Players from abroad will always bring lower fees (unless its messi/ronaldo type players) big clubs cant really take a risk on ben arfa/sess when they are playing abroad because of the 25 man squad rule, it could be the managers neck if it goes pear shaped, so they let the little clubs have them, let them get experience of the PL, then they come swooping, even if its going to cost them 200% more than we paid for them, its not so much of a risk, and they have the cash/turnover to do it.

Hmm fair point, I still think peoples valuations have been warped by 3 or 4 signings but we shall see.

Whatever you do don't tell Fat Mike he could get £15-20M for Ben Arfa! He'd be gone quicker than a Greggs pasty in the NUFC Boardroom...

But sometimes, very rarely, accurate ****e. Normally a day after all the other papers have printed it. Still they do give food for thought.
