But not quite how we'd hoped.

    http://www.hullcityindependent.net/?page=news&news_id=911

Disappointed about Mannone but I had a feeling it would be these two a couple of weeks ago after OLM moved to deny links with Joe Lewis etc but said nothing when I mentioned Kirkland.

Either way, as long as Kirkland can remain injury-free he'll be a good addition, and if nothing else then it'll free up some loan spaces, as opposed to having two of five spots being taken up by goalkeepers this season.

As the word seems to be out, I might as well confirm that we do expect Kirkland and Jakopovic to be our keepers next season.

I wonder which of them will be first choice? Can't see Kirkland leaving Wigan's bench to come and be on the bench here instead.

I was under the impression that Jakupovic was always going to be number two, unless of course we brought in nobody else.
Kirkland is a free agent I presume?

Kirland is a free agent and has been very keen to join us, he's pissed off with all the injuries caused by splinters in his arse.

It's not just his arse though. He has a glass back and shoulders.

He won't play more than 10 consecutive games imo.

However, a decent keeper in his prime.

Hmm, a bit worrying considering he hasn't completed more than 8 games in the last 2 years. Sort of defeats the object of bringing him in, as we'll only end up having to loan another keeper in to cover him when he's injured.

I know we're going for cheap options, but it's a bit worrying when in comparison, despite Ken Bates at Leeds being the biggest tight arse in the league, Leeds are likely to have Paddy Kenny and Andy Lonergan as keepers for next season, while we'll have a bloke who isn't likely to last more than 10 games before getting injured and a bloke who is untried in this country, never mind this league.

Puts it into perspective a bit.

FFS, here we go again. Slagging off somebody (Kirkland) who has yet to play a game for us Yet.!!!! When fit Chris Kirkland is one of the best GK in the PL nevermind the championship and far better than Paddy Kenny as an example. The Elden chap is also good. I wonder IF Vito's howlers of late have made Nick think twice about spending large amounts of money on him ? Time will tell.

Whatever money is available should be used on GOAL SCORERS though, imo. If those 2 mentioned are the ones then so be it. I bet Kirkland wont be expensive on wages either which is another plus. CK has much to prove and is without doubt a class keeper.

That's not a great signing in terms of likelihood of him completing more than 8 games in a row. I would rather have had Mannone on loan for another season if we can't buy him out right.

Boaz was a settled ship, look at how many keepers we've had since.

I think it's mainly because of the finances. We could only afford loans such as Mannone and Guzan, and then we couldn't afford Mannone on a permanent so had to make do with another two short-term players in Basso and Gulacsi and now we still can't afford Mannone on a permanent. Boaz was a legend for us being involved in so many great games but I'm not convinced he was any better than Mannone.

WBA want to sign Ben Foster in the summer (subject to Birmingham not going up) and Bo could well go the other way as part of the transfer. Again, time will tell.

I would prefer to have Bo and Vito as my 2 GK if finds allowed. I dont see any championship club taking Vito especially IF Arsenal stick to there overpriced 7 figure fee. We can always take Vito back when the loan window opens if required.

As Ive been saying for a good fortnight, Jakopovic formally signed weeks ago. It is just not possible to announce this at the present time.

As for Kirkland, I'm pretty sure EVERY club has been saying 'if he stays fit he'll be a good addition'. The problem is he doesnt stay fit, end of.

Very happy with Kirkland top keeper if he rekindles his form, and if he does only last 8 games as a lot of you say, the management clearly have faith in this Jakopovic fella. This is positive news IMO.

    Agreed.

The sad fact is that Hull City could sign Messi and yet some would come on hear and say it should have been Ronaldo.<whistle>

I wonder where Mannone goes from here. It's a shame really because he genuinely sounded like he wanted to stay.

How was I slagging him off saying he's injury prone?!! He IS injury prone, FACT! I didn't mention him not being a quality keeper when fit, anywhere in my post. Good job Nick isn't looking at you as our new keeper as you can't even see what's in front of your face!

Again, I didn't say Jakupovic isn't good - I said he's untried, which, when you're looking to push on and improve, is a bit of a gamble, but one that will hopefully pay off.

First off you need to practice what you preach. 2nd, what has gone before with Kirkland is history and until he continues to be a sick note with us then the argument is pointless. I think for what we shall pay for him wages wise will be a good deal.

As for Jakupovic, he is quality and his cv is impressive. Spurs were looking at him last season. IMO if both do end up being our keepers next season then its a vast improvement on Basso and Gulacsi. But dont rule Vito totally out of the picture just yet.

Not sure who will be number 1, as I haven't seen Jakupavic play, but what I have seen of Kirkland, he is a decent signing but nothing more.

imo Kirkland may have a job to be the starting keeper. Good to have 2 who push each other.

Clever move bringing in Kirkland. Prem keeper if he can stay fit and I wouldn't of thought we would have given him a long contract. It's a win-win situation.
