A post on the chelsea board regarding wenger got me thinking which pl manager do you hate and respect the most (post 2000). For me its a tough call between fergie, mourinho and dalglish for hated but i've got to give it to mourihno. With regards to most respected/liked rival pl manger is AVB for me (dont know why just always like his attitude and passion). Oh and please refrain from profanities (though i know no ones going to listen to that request)
Mourinho & AVB aren't a PL managers Hate Dalglish Respect Moyes Assume we can't name our own club's manager
I begrudgingly respect Fergie because the difference he makes to that team cannot be overstated. On paper, Man City should be walking this league and United should be in the doldrums like the rest of us but Fergie has a way of motivating people to be winners. I also hugely respect Martinez for sticking with Wigan. He must've been tempted to leave but he perseveres every season, much like Moyes.
Most respected: Wenger: for creating a team that challenges every year despite everyone telling him he's doing it wrong. Moyes: For getting the best out of an average team and for prowling the touchline like a Hawk Martinez: Same as above and for doing it in a Gentlemanly way Disliked: Hughes: Do I need to explain? Basically he's a ****. Pardew: Smug and arrogant. I'll never forget the way he threw it in Wenger's face when West Ham scored a last minute winner Warnock: Whining little ****, dresses it up as humour, but he's got a nasty streak. Phil Brown: More like ridicule than hatred. But the Orange tan and the Britney Spears radio mic
In term of rival managers the one I have most respected is David Moyes for achieving what he has on a shoestring. As the title says post 2000, I assume I could also add the name of Sir Bobby Robson. The one I cannot stand? Well there are more than one and they are Mourinho, Allardyce, Dalglish and Brown.
Pretty much agreed, although I'd have to add Fergie to the most respected list and Tony Pulis to the most hated list, the cynical clogger ****.
Most Respected: Wenger: For making me expect us to challenge every season rather than it being a treat like it used to. Martinez: Seriously, does anyone dislike him? Seems so amiable and has stuck by his principles even when things were at their bleakest. Fergie: Still manages to produce champions year on year. Gets the perfect blend of youth and experience and always seems to win. Red faced tw*t! Moyes: Exactly the same reason as Piskie. Wish he'd teach Wenger how to motivate his squad from the touchline like he can. Disliked: Hughes: Tw*t. Left Fulham after a season (of mediocrity) to go to Chelsea but doesn't get the job - Whoopsie. Ends up at QPR which is where he meant to be all along. Massive ego as a manager without anything to back it up. Pardew: Classless knob-head. Just so graceless (and yes, I appreciate the irony of a Wenger fan saying that!). Fergie: What? Shut up, he can be on both lists. Pulis: Mainly for his baseball hats (you're a grown man, what's wrong with somethign a bit classier like a top hat or something - I'm no fashionmonger), but also Shawcross-gate.
Most respected: Wenger: For revolutionising and bring great football to the premiership and Arsenal SAF: For winning another title when everyone was saying Man City would win again Martinez: Good guy who gets his team to play good football Moyes: Producing teams year in year out on shoe string budgets Paul Lambert and Brendon Rodgers: Newly promoted teams playing no fear quality football. Pardew: Getting Newcastle challenging for a Champs league spot. Buying some great budget buys and bringing them to the Prem. Hodgson: True gentleman. It's sad he had to go to Liverpool and for it all to turn bad.... Most Disliked: Wenger/SAF: A couple of old farts that can't stop wingeing and moaning when things don't go their way. Wenger is the biggest sore loser and SAF is a bully. They should behave with more class! Pulis: Plays crap football
Most respected - Fergire - can't argue with what he has done although it pains me. Most hated - draw between Allardyce and Hughes. Most hated and respected at same time - Mourinho. Most liked - draw between Martinez and ... cough cough ... Redknapp ... oo'er.
what that last part couldn't make out?...haha he is a good manager though at least in terms of transfers not sure bout tactics though!
I love 'arry for his attitude to life (well, 90% of the time), brilliant one-liners and constant gaffs. Wouldn't want him anywhere near Arsenal but he seems a likeable chap, and I suspect I will always slightly love him for the photo of him leaning out of his car where it makes him look like a London cabbie! I feel very similar about Ian Holloway.
I really do like 'Arry, every interview he gives is a laugh, I liked him from West Ham. Barry Fry is one of those larger than life characters but he isn't a patch on Harry. I do like Ian Holloway too, always a laugh when he is around.
Most respected/liked - Martinez, Moyes, Wenger. Fergie Most disliked- Macleish -I will never forget his excuse for the shattering of Eduardo's leg was that Eduardo was 'too quick for his defenders' and that the defender, can't remember his name, 'wasn't that type of player'. Same goes for Pulis on Ramsey's leg and shawcross - and I agree with the comments about his tracksuit and cap. McCleish has also single handedly destroyed Villa, a fate they didnt deserve - potentially two relegations on the trot. On a slightly related issue, has anyone else noticed the correlation between wearing a suit and being a successful manager? Think Fergie, Wenger, Morinho, Guardiola, Ancelloti and Graham vs O'Neill, Pulis, McCarthy, Bruce, Moyes, etc. Only one I can think that breaks the mould was Brain Clough
I had left out Wenger because the OP had said ' rival ' in the title of his thread but I do agree with you that while being amongst the two most successful managers in the EPL, sadly Arsene is also the worst of the bad losers in the game. It is not him that I dislike, it is the trait. Of the man, while I think he should not extend his stay with us beyond the end of his contract, he has done a lot for the club, much of which we need to be grateful. I used to turn a blind eye to Arsene's tantrums at losing because he was our manager and I too felt his frustration and anguish but it doesn't detract from his poor sense of sportsmanship which after many years is beginning to be embarrassing. Refusals to acknowledge rival managers at the end of matches does nothing for our part in bringing and maintaining goodwill in the game. If the others are themselves bad losers, there is no need for our manager to partake of the same. Two wrongs do not make one right. It rubs off on the team too and that is poor management and bad example-giving. Bobby Robson once said after winning at Highbury that Arsenal needed to learn how to lose. Harsh but not unfair. Bad behaviour shouldn't be part of our makeup. Leave that to the others. We owe ourselves more than that. As for SAF, while I admit to respecting his track record of success, I deplore his bullying and controlling tactics. That he was caught on microphone with his attempts to ban a journalist following the Ryan Giggs affair just shows he has an aura of self importance that is out of place. The expressions control and freak come to mind. With respect to Pulis, now that is a new one altogether. I thought he was in charge of rugby at Stoke......
Spot on. I'm just suprised that this isn't bothering most of the Arsenal fans on this forum either. Some of his antics in the Wigan game were so bad i felt embarrassed watching them at home! Alternatively, look at the way Martinez conducts himself, with great dignity and as a true gent. What i wanted to see is Arsene congratulating Martinez, a manager that is stuggling and under pressure of a minor club. Arsene is getting more and more frustrated and bitter at the fact he's not won anything in 7 years. Whos fault is that Arsene? Even if you're not winning you still have to conduct yourself well, especially as you are a veteran and respected figure of the game.
Hate: Wenger because he can't just accept his teams been out played, it's never their fault when they lose. Like: Kean
Yes indeed agree and sadly, with all of it. Another I have liked from the past is Chris Hughton. Shame he had to leave Newcastle for no good reason.
