They're shocking at the minute. 16K last night for a local match is pathetic. The North Stand has been practically empty in every match aswell, except when the likes of Leeds, Boro, Leicester, West Ham, Derby, Forest (fingers crossed) came to town. Something needs to be done. Maybe just let kids in for cheap in most of the games next season and half between them and the away fans in the North Stand. On the other hand, Cities away following is generally very good.
I dont actually think that last nights attendance was that bad considering. Wasnt the weather awful? Dont we normally get lower attendances midweek? Given the fact that we were never going to make the play offs barring a miracle what do you expect? I think the big worry is what the gates will be like next season. Especially if we do seel one or two of our better players.
Hopefully it will be better on Saturday when they are doing the ticket offer. All the same, not bad for a bloody awful Tuesday night.
In Pearsons programme notes last night he said "To be averaging almost 19,000 at home is a fantastic achievement when only ten years ago our average was 4,000! I have to agree we should be proud how many fans we ve attracted or brought back from yesteryear and sustained it.
Football is too expensive for a lot of people , look at the economic situation especially in places like Hull
Still think that if we are to stay at the KC (........ leave for another thread), we do need to sort the North Stand out. Needs to be home supporters, enjoyed it when if was half full of school kids.
The 18,700 average this season isn't bad considering that we weren't scoring for the half the season and a lot of people are skint. Brum and Reading's are about the same as ours and the only clubs that averaged over 20k this season were West Ham, Southampton, Derby, Leeds, Leicester, Cardiff, Forest and Brighton. Kids for a quid and the opposition being Forest should bump that up a little higher on Saturday.
That and it being the last home game of the season, I would hope would mean a bigger crowd on Saturday. I'm taking my eldest and my niece to their first game on Saturday. Eldest is very excited and is counting his sleeps until he sees the tigers. However, when I put football on the tv he shouts it's boring??!! He also wants to wear his tiger mask that he got from Chester zoo. I might make him do the "mauled by the tigers" chant whilst he's wearing it
I think our average attendance at just below 19000 is excellent - last nights was a low but wasn't swelled with any numbers from Barnsley - there is also the far more attractive game against Forest on Sat - oh and it was p*ssing down. Also noted TWS last home game was sub 20k, so was Leicesters last night whilst Boro only had 14k against similar poor opposition in Donny. Reading and Birmingham have crept marginally above ours now after both getting the results in the run-in. Do need to keep the pressure on to gee people up for next season though in terms of renewing season passes. The right noises from the Allams would help asap as NB has alluded to of late.
Anyway the crowd last night wasn't that bad in terms of numbers , I thought we might struggle to get 16,000
2,500 Forest fans on saturday as they have SOLD OUT there allocation. Maybe we can give them a few more. Kids for a quid i am told on saturday and the gate will be well over 20K. Not bad for a game that is almost a Dead rubber. Hull City can finish 7th and be the No.1 YORKSHIRE TEAM again this season. Not bad all things considered. The neg heads were out in force again last night on Blunderside and in the stands. Maybe the Rain got into there heads through there ears ? IMO, nobody that Nick wants to keep will leave in the summer and Nick will get the players he wants. Look forward to next season with relish Not negativity as is the Hull way. Enjoy the summer as we have the euros - pre-season and the olympics Before the Big Kick Off again on August 18th and a success filled 2012/13. We shall be the Reading of 2012/13 and I for one hope that we get off too a great start. It took Reading 4 years to get back to the PL. Hull City can do it in 3 years. BELEAVE.!!!!! AS FOR LAST NIGHTS CROWD, it was not a bad gate at all. Barnsley brought almost nobody and the weather was awful. one of my mates arrived late and looked like a drowned rat. Lol. Maybe we can have Barnsley @ home over Xmas next season for a 20k gate ?
I was thinking about this the other day. Reading are a similar sized club to ourselves and had 2 seasons pretty similar to us in the PL, came back down, stabalised for a couple of years, made the play off final in their 3rd year and now have now gone up and probably as champions in their 4th season in this league. Shows it can be done over time, aside from the bigger clubs like Newcastle and West Brom not many have bounced straight back up, West Ham may not even do it yet. You look at Reading's progress over these last couple of years and see that as a progression you'd like to see us take.
Thanks. I know i am the Nigel Adkins of this board (Always Positive) but i just dont see another team any better than Hull City(talent wise). The 3 clubs that come down will be Raped of all there best players in the summer and will have to rebuild and IF West Ham(fingers crossed) and Birmingham dont make the PL via the play-offs then they will have Financial Armageddon to cater for. Dont be surprised IF one or two clubs start next season on -10 points either. Blackburn will be an interesting summer watch after relegation, maybe.!!!
I do worry about next season we have a minibus full most home games but since xmas we have only filled it twice and out of the 12 only 7 have or going to renew their season pass. And all have at least 15+ years following the tigers.
Other Clubs that have bounced straight back after being relegated from the Premier League include Crystal Palace, Charlton Athletic, Leicester City, Sunderland, Bolton Wanderers, Birmingham City, and Manchester City. Some teams - West Brom, Birmingham and Leicester have done it twice. West Ham previously took 2 seasons to get back. Or so I have been told!
Unfortunately it's a sign of the times. Being a football fan in any division nowadays is a very expensive business. It's cost me, my 10 year old and my mum over £2k this season in season tickets, petrol, food and programmes just for the home games. Add in the 10 away games we've been too on top of that and it turns into quite a scary figure indeed!!
Was only refering to as far back as memory serves (about 6 years, that includes Sunderland and Brum I think I missed), hence all the teams I'd forgotten! But the amount of former premier league teams in the Championship and even League 1 serves as a reminder of how tough it can be to get back in the PL after relegation.
Very well said - couldn't agree more. Must admit there were times during the season, especially recently, when I felt for you season ticket holders, and thankful I'm unable to be! However, on reflection, wish I could be at the Forest game, and would have been happy to be a season ticket holder - there is still the chance of excitement at the end of the season - 2 wins is a real possibility (dare I say it) and would make up for the recent dismal results, particularly as we really are not quite ready for the prem. I think I may also have misspelt 'BELIEVE' in my state of inebriation - a holiday afternoon!
around 25% of relegated teams have gone straight back up since the Premier league started. Compare that with 40% of teams that have been relegated and NEVER gone back up. These stats don't include this season. All 3 of last year's relegated teams are in the playoff places but of course, only one can go up.
