Why do they do it ? i know they have a job to do but i don't see the point of doing it in my opinion, for example take Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for example, he's played 9 games for Arsenal and they are already saying he's going to be world -class, he's going to the euopean championships summer and he's been noinated in the young player of the year awards, like i said Phil Jones should've been on that list but that's for another thread. I remember when Wayne Rooney came through at Everton, they were comparing him to Paul Gascoigne, they are 2 different players. I wish the press and media would let these young players develope without any pressure before knocking them down again.
They are responsible for the Football Writers' Player of the Year Awards. I don't think they have an award for Young Player of the Year.
The PFA awards are decided by a vote amongst the members of the players' trade union, the Professional Footballers' Association. Nothing to do with the press. List goes to show how stupid players can be.
While the lists are more or less crap, we cannot complain too much. United have the highest number of awards (11) for Player of the year, and highest number for Young Player of the Year (8). Not bad for a team in decline. Thank God for those refs!!
But the press/media probably do have an influence in over hyping players. They harp on about how good one player could be in a few years time and some of the players probably fall for it.
Possibly but I'm also sure the players allow their own bias and feelings to decide their votes rather than what the press simply say.
