Did anyone see it? It was ****ing ace! (Possibly not for the people on board, I realise. Get well soon...) Coming in to land at the Infirmary. It was like Black Hawk Down or some ****. People were flipping out! Got a bit breezy mind Them things are massive close up. I'm still buzzing.
Sea king wasn't it, also I saw all those mopeds and boy racers in Tesco checking out my ride. I hope they realise they only get two hours parking there
I was amazed at the number of people who were amazed at seeing a helicoptor , you should go to an airport it's amazing
I was working in Leconfield a few years back and the most impressive chopper I saw there was the Queens coming into land and dropping off her and the old Greek fella, we'd skived off work so got a pretty good view. Seakings were ten a penny I'm afraid, there was even a burnt out one there on the airfield I saw.
I've been in one of those bad boys on numerous occasions. I even spent half a day learning how to guide the ****ing things down with those light rave stick type things. At the end of the 'course' there was a live exercise where we were supposed to guide one down. Well some ****er should have told the pilot. He took one look at NFU and must have thought, ' Balls to taking any notice of this Herbert with his light sabres. I'll land the bastard as I see fit and just ignore Darth ****er and his epileptic arm waving down there.' He then proceeded to completely ignore my rather random and at times made up signals. Can't blame him on quite a few levels. He'd gone through years of intense training to fly that multiple million pound machine. I'd spent a couple of hours not really listening and as such didn't have the first idea what I was doing. It wasn't the first time and wouldn't be the last either. I might have another go next time one lands at Hull Royal just to see if it comes back to me, which if I'm being honest think it probably will.
You weren't anywhere near saddleworth with your lightsabres a few months back were you? Whilst driving over the top of the M62 a chinook randomly came in to land at the top right overhead. They are big bastards
Just to spoil your party Party Hull, (good pun .. they are awesome but give huge respect to all on board! In air cadets (worst decision on my life so glad i left) i went in one with the winch man and you will never experience anything like it in your life, that experience pushed me even more to achieve my dream, to fly (at the time it was fighter pilot) but like i say sorry to rain on your parade but I am one step away from working as a pilot on them, never thought i would get the chance in the current cuts let alone ever!!! but passed my aptitude tests, fitness tests the lot, just got one more interview/meeting and exam sooooo i can offer a free ride to the KC maybe in a few months hahaha!!!
I thought it was very cool, so naturally I am impressed that you may soon be flying one of those mothers. I am also impressed at how many people knew it was a 'Sea King'. I've just been going around for the last day telling anyone who'll listen that I watched a gigantic yellow hellycopty thingy landing near me, and that it was windy as ****. Everyone's like "oh yeah Sea King" like it's an old friend. Well, it's the time I've been introduced! You could be in that elite club of people who go to football matches in helicopters, with Roman Abramovich. Except obviously he's an awful ****.
I had a Sea King come to my house several months ago, after a tree surgeon fell out of a tree onto my drive, breaking his back in two places. The whole village turned out to have a nosey. Not only did the bloke make a full recovery(after they rebuilt his spine, as he'd lost 1.5cm in height), but he even came back and finished the job a few months later.
No doubt i will be seeing you in the air i will be the one flying with a bed-sheet above my head and the petrol strimmer engine on my back we fly all over the region and are based at Leven right next door to you. I have spoken to the seaking pilot before when he was circumnavigating our at zone and i too would have no problem landing inside the KC ive often day dreamed about doing this at half time and also kick the ball into the net as a party piece lol. For now though i just fly over the KC but maybe one day who knows(it would certainly up the entertainment level especially after watching the second half of the Barnsley game).
Was he barking up the wrong tree?? One of my favorite trips in the RAF was sitting in a Tornado F3 to take some photos of another one flying alongside. Sadly the other one broke so couldn't go flying so my pilot basically said *well we got the time booked, lets go for a jolly, where do you fancy?* so, 30 mins later, flew around the KC then after a quick chat with Humberside ATC, flew along then over the bridge. He wouldn't let me drop anything on Grimsby though
