We have apparently been fined by the FA for the pitch invasion at Carlisle and warned that if it happens again after the Hartlepool game there will be no trophy presentation and the club will receive a heftier fine. The club has also been asked to punish the miscreants. The operations director has said that the club will do no such thing. Whilst the temptation is to shout "jobsworths" at top volume, this is how it is. I for one will be mightily pissed off it I am denied seeing a presentation because some folk can't control themselves (lads - just wait till after the presentation and the lap of honour!). No doubt the club will issue dire warnings and about a billion stewards will be employed for the game. But I can't help but feel that a few lads will want their ten minutes of fame and ruin it for the rest. Bah humbug!
Our fans got bans going on the pitch at home against notts county a couple of seasons ago after winning promotion on the last day of the season last season.an absolute joke.
Can we not countersue the FA for providing officials at the last three home games and numerous away games who were 'unfit for purpose'?
absolutely pathetic. i think the highlights of saturday show how its possible to conduct an impromptu celebration without causing any aggro or grief. was proud that even when we invade to celebrate, still retain some decorum and order. just looked like lads enjoying themselves...didnt see any aggro.
A world gone mad. As long as they aren't destroying the property then surely there is no harm? And I wouldn't call Carlisle a ''pitch invasion''.
How on Earth is the club supposed to control the spontaneous reaction of euphoric fans at another clubs ground exactly?
The Club can tell the FA to fack off. The Club can invite who it likes onto the pitch it has no contract with the FA on what is private property-their property in fact and this is all bollox.
Agree with the comments on here, I refrained from running onto the pitch at Carlisle, mainly because the sodding Old Bill were recording everyone who did so on a video-camera, but this is the first time we've been able to be happy about our season in the past 7 years, and like Typical says, I'm pretty sure the Valley is considered private property and any problem of trespassing will thus be a crime for the club to deal with and nothing to do with the FA. I'm sure one of you is a boffin who can give us a greater insight though
There was no agro with the pitch invasion on saturday whatsoever - purely exhuberance- and years of supporting a crap team coming out.
Exactly Stu Well, the only agro was the Carlisle fan who was arrested and the guy in the Carlisle tracksuit (groundsman? back room staff?) who was giving it a bit to the fans, (and got pushed a back by the female Police officer )
I remember the old bill filming everything - but i thought they were more interested in the Carlisle 'crew' that were trying to antagonise us - however they may well have been filming CAFC as well - did you also notice the couple of Met Police ? I remember a yound lad with a red and white HArlequin hat tripping over near the box, and a steward picked him up and told him to get back and find his dad ! Couldnt believe the number of stewards and old bill present - i mean, its not as if we're Millwall !!
dont know for sure, but would be of the belief that the Football league can insist on any conditions they like. the contract each league member signs to be admitted each season is comprehensive and gives the league carte blanche to prescribe in a host of areas you would assume they have no right to. any activities related to match day would be included in the contract especially if the area can be linked to public order issues. charlton own the valley true. but we all know they are not permitted to sell alcohol in sight of the pitch. so there is just one example of the league`s regulatory power trumphing charlton`s rights as owner occupiers. league can do what it likes, when it likes.
There are such things as unfair contract. A governing body in any area can not impose fines, penalties etc on a memeber that are deemed to be excessive, oppresive and unfair. What the FA can do is penalise a club for failure to control its fans. But not if the club invite and control those fans in a way not to invite a public order offence or indeed compromise its duties as an occupier. That is too say A CONTROLLED PITCH INVASION AT THE INVITE OF THE CLUB is permissable. The FA are looking here to pay for their golfing holidays and it is a disgracethat the club are running scared of the FA who are ruining the gme by their Draconian illegal rulings taht make little sense or consistancy.
Just to be clear, I'd love to participate in a pitch invasion. And yes, the world has gone mad. However, I would be surprised (and delighted) if the club invited a controlled pitch invasion. They won't. Not because they are cow-towing to a draconian FA but because they don't want to. There are health and safety considerations that the club will not want to flout even if they are ridiculous and good old Paddy certainly won't want swarms of people chugging up the pitch. There are also the thousands who can't for mobility or inclination reasons get on the pitch. The sensible and dignified thing is to watch the presentation and the lap of honour from our appointed places so that EVERYBODY can enjoy it! But common sense and dignity don't seem to count for much these days. I'd love to be on the pitch and give Kermit a manly hug as much as the next guy. But I can't and I realise that I can't however unreasonable I think that is. But the "**** you I'll do what I like regardless of the impact on others" attitude is why the world is going to hell in a handcart IMHO. Maybe I'm just getting old.
Jimbob, i think its generally a UK thing. For example, i went to a 20/20 game in Cape Town a few weeks ago and they positively encouraged the crowd come on the pitch after the game. Also, i was in Melbourne for the Grand Prix a few years ago and they let you walk the route after the race. It just seems that the nanny state kicks in in this country more than others. I cant wait to have a pitch invasion after the Pools game, and hope we can do it after the trophy is given. As mentioned elsewhere, it would have been easy to get on the pitch on saturday, and 95 per cent of our fans restrained themselves, but not sure its going to be like that v Pools. Then again, I vaguely remember us getting our trophy when we won the champs last time was presented before the game - not totally sure about that though.
There is a very easy way deal with all this which in my brain is faultless. Cafc announce that once the game is finished and the result and teams are in, the under 16's can come onto the pitch to meet the players if they have their parents with them or guardians. That will prevent a pitch invasion and also deter over 16 from coming on for fear of public humiliation and ridicule. The fans deserve to meet and greet that is the least the club can do. It also will not create a safety hazard or legal problems because the club discharges its responsibility back onto the parent. A bit of sensible thinking and pr can go a long way I remember being invited into the cockpit of a plane once as a kid. It was only weird when the pilot asked me i liked gladiators........
The FA can bend over and perform unnatural acts on themselves as far as i am concerned. Generally, they seem to be the same crew of self appointed, life hating old gits that have always run football (who then complain when foreign gits like Sepp Blatter act in exactly the same high.handed manner to them) and their obvious desire to strangle life and fun out of football seems never ending. Let them have their fun, such as it is. We can all sit round the pitch eating pork-free pork pies, applaud politely at the end of the game, and that's our celebration. Personaly, i'll be leaping about in Spain, will undertake to invade the sofa, and plan to be rat-faced at five when we get our award. Thanks to all at Carlisle who posted video's so the rest of us could enjoy the excitement. please do the same against Hartlepool.
Ooh one more thing. Please please do not do a players parade with their wives and kids. That really iratates me. I've got kids and a missus who I pay to get into the ground. Well not the missus. They aren't allowed on the pitch so why should non paying transients like players wives and kids be paraded in front of us like some blue cross royal family. I pay for their jimmy choos and their suntans and I don't want it flounted in front of me. When I empty the bins each week I don't expect to march up the road once a yearwith the wives in kids in tow.
Some sensible suggestions here. I wonder what bthe club will do. I'm given to understand that they told the FA to "do one" when it was requested that the Carlisle pitch invaders be punished. So maybe some happy medium will be found. I suspect they will just tell us to keep off or else the presentation won't happen, but once it has happened things might loosen up.
