This is my first time back to this thread since the Chinese Grand Prix.
Having been shown the fantastic Lao interview, I have concluded that Lao is, in fact,
    Genji !

    - What a hero: he's got a better appreciation of 'Britishness' than the average Brit. To hell with Sky, let's import Lao and get him to stand for Parliament!

I don't know about Sky but 'The Voice' got 11 million, double that of Cowell's BGT, which is being moved now so as not to clash. Another BBC win then ;)

So on average BBC is 10 times as popular <laugh>
What was Sky's pull for the first 2 races? basically how many had Sky and chose to watch the BBC version anyway?

    AUS:
    Sky (live): avg-0.87m Peak-1.02m
    BBC (Highlights): avg-2.73m peak-3.28m

    MAL:
    Sky (live): avg-0.96m peak-1.5m
    BBC (Highlights): avg-1.0m peak-1.2m

    CHI:
    Sky (live): avg-0.48m peak-0.85m
    BBC (live): avg-2.9m peak-4.1m

so it looks like Sky lost half of its viewiers while the BBC trippled on its malaysia highlights. of course the BBC peak could of came when confused viewers switched on to watch the Andrew Marr show...

BBC Sport is profiling 20 of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time. This time it's Emerson Fittipaldi time.

The acid test will be Spain - however, those results have to be pretty damning for Sky. They will need a lot more viewers to justify their investment.

Hmmmm, so the sport has about 3.5m fans which means about 3 out of 4 miss out on the live race when its on Sky.

This is the most apt observation.

I also think we should remember that a lot of people felt so let-down by the BBC's/Sky/Murdoch/Ecclestone affair, that they have turned their backs on the whole thing. Many people across several forums actually alluded to this - and of course, it is not usually the casual viewer who contributes to a forum. We can never know for sure how many actually did this, but I personally know of a few who told me they'd not bother any more.

Sky really missed a trick when poaching BBC employees and not getting DC. I really like him as a commentator and pundit, he is very astute and informative and really I am starting to find him better than Brundle. The Edwards/DC combo is certainly better than the Croft/Brundle combo in my opinion.

Yeah, definitely. I still think the best combination we've had since Walker retired was last year but Edwards/Coulthard are the best of what we have now.

More to the point, Sky really missed a trick in poaching BBC employees and choosing Croft.

This. The other three are excellent, Croft is just terrible. Sky did a montage yesterday of father/son race winners, up until Jacques Villeneuve Walker was commentating, they then got to Nico and Croft was on there screaming and just completely ruined the whole feature. He was awful today. Just seen the BBC's coverage and really enjoyed Edwards and Coulthard's commentary, a nice balance of insight from DC and enthusiasm from Edwards. I think Sky could've had similar if they'd gone for James Allen rather than Croft.

In the light of the latest Bernie stitch-up, I wonder what the end result will be, and how many more viewers will abandon the sport?

When will the manufacturers take hold of the situation and sort it out - Bernie to retire. PLEASE.

Is F1 not currently enjoying record TV audiences? As I understand it, the F1 Board is the solution to Ecclestone's impending retirement, following the flotation cash-in, and select constructors (manufacturers are fickle beasts and use F1 only to sell cars) will be represented on the board alongside big investors (except Mercedes).
