Just shows how weak he was with Bates and Harvey, but there were other problems at the club that were completely down to him, so no problem losing him. Timing was bad - good from Bates point of view - but Bates cocked it up again. Always said he never got the players he really wanted, so we always played in the rejects bucket and when they failed, we had ot get more and more rejects. Each may have been cheap, but we needed so many of them, collectively they gave Bates an excuse to whinge. But Grayson wouldn't have known what to do with the best players anyway. Nice guy, but not my idea of a good manager (in hindsight)
To be fair I think he got the best out of Gradel, Snoddy, Becchio when Beckford left and probably even McCormack. They were/are our best players. I personally think he just lost his way, after 3 years of having to deal in the bargain basement, missing out on players he wanted and losing his best players.

Grayson, 42, took over at Huddersfield after being sacked by the Championship side in February. "You have to improve every year and we didn't spend any money in the summer to strengthen the side," he said. "If you look at the teams who are doing well in that league they're the ones who've spent a bit of money." Grayson asked for a centre-back/centre-midfielder depending on which of Bates' senile YR outbursts you're inclined to believe. He was sacked after the Brum game, signing a confidentiality clause in the process of receiving his payoff. He told Mark Clemmitt on the FL Podcast that he hadn't been properly backed. Now he's done the same here on the BBC. And people say he doesn't have balls and would never stand up to Bates.
