This is not a thread about the rights and wrongs of what this man did, I would be quite shocked if anyone could find a right in it, its about how the people of Norway seem to be handling it. I have not been an avid watcher of the trial but did watch a little and I have to say I am so impressed with the attitude of those involved and the attitude of the people, or what I have seen of it, maybe Norway can give a closer view. The outcome and what should happen is one thing but the way the people seem determined not to let him change their lives, well to me its been so impressive and mature. I cant see everyone agreeing or this thread staying on track.
Lawyers on all sides in the trial of Anders Behring Breivik have called for a judge to be removed following revelations he called for the death penalty for the far-right activist who killed 77 people last year. Proceedings have been delayed since the court in Oslo was adjourned shortly after 8am UK time for a crisis meeting.... ........................................... May have to start following this case more.
I honestly don.t know, but do Norway still have the death penalty, or was this judge attempting to make it a one off?
I'm fairly certain they don't have the death penalty, last time I heard the maximum sentence they could hand out for any crime in Norway was about 20 years. They should probably hand this guy over to the Thai authorities after lacing his trousers with narcotics.
I'm almost certain that Norway abolished the death penalty many years ago, and the judge in question was heard saying that it should be brought back just for this case. As for the trial, I watched quite a bit of it yesterday, and found it quite interesting how on the one hand Breivik was giving Nazi salutes and stating how he only wished he killed more, and on the other hand, when they were showing footage of what he had actually done to those kids he was crying like a baby... My personal view is that he is obviously insane and should be locked ina secure hospital unit for life rather than facing trial.
Well one is for certain, it would be a quick trail of probably minutes, then he'd be led of for his injection..
Norway abolished the death penalty in 1905 - there may be calls for them to reinstate it after this mind.
I am and always have been anti death penalty, just don't agree with killing anyone. I also think it's the easy option, a quick humane death or a real life sentence with humanity yes, food, warmth and care but no 5 star treatment. Real work for upkeep and the constant fear that one day a fellow prisoner may get you and hurt you. If I was the murderer I think death would feel a better option.
That was meant to be 60 Personally think the death penalty is an easier way out for a lot of people. Not for it or against it, can see it's merit, can see it's downfalls.
The only problem with the death penalty is a lot of these nutters want to die anyway so they can go crazy and do what ever they want and then get rewarded with being killed. There are worse things than death, being blind and deaf for a life time comes to mind or being paralyzed from the neck down.
Maybe... We could chop off his arms and legs and hoy him into a swimming pool, and nickname him BoB......
I thought this was a football forum for people who only wanted to talk about football... But you still wandered through the thread, knowing what it was about...
I didn't think you could watch the trial or he is certainly not to be permitted to speak or something. I for one am dissapointed that someone has made the decision that we are not grown up enough to listen to what he has to say. I can't think people are going to think. He's talking sense etc. Just think the authorities are treating us like children. I don't like that aspect. I honestly don't know what should be done with people like him? Death, well it would save a lot of money? Let him rot, seems fair enough? Pehaps he should be donated to medical science so they can have a real life guinea pig, so to speak. Let them do despicable thinks in the name of progress? May find a cure for cancer quicker and help the greater good? Maybe that's a bit extreme.........
