Serious question, not here for an argument. I am trying to guage how fans of other top 10 teams rate Alex Song. Would you swap Diarra, the ex Real Madrid star for Song if given the chance ? I know he has just joined you but whats your feeling ?
Yes I would definitely swap. I really rate Song, I think he is a hard working midfielder who can both attack and defend, a few of his balls through for Van Persie have been top class. Plus he is 6 years younger, so yes I would swap no problem.
I am surprised by that, seeing Diarra's passing the other day I would say he still has it. Song is basic.
Diarra got more experience - Song has the potential to be better though, think he is an underrated player.
Diarra has decent passing at times, but can be poor at other times. Maybe that's just him getting his sharpness back but you say Song's passing is basic, I haven't seen many difficult passes from Diarra. 2 of Song's passes stick out in my mind this season, both of them were chips over the top to RVP for 2 quite similar goals, the volleys against Liverpool and Everton.
I saw Diarra zipping the ball around to players, I like the pace at which he gets the ball and looks to pace. Song seems to dwell on the ball far too long and he is slow with it. I just think Diarra back fit would be the fat better player, based on what he used to do ....
Possibly, but I don't think either of us have seen enough of him to suggest he will be at the level he used to be and at the age of 30 how long can he have left? Don't get me wrong I am happy we got him and appreciate his efforts it's just given the choice between a 30 year old Diarra and a 24 year old Song, I'd have to take Song.
The midfielder I covet is Yaya Torre. But as to the question, I think I would swap for Song because he's 25, not 30 like Diarra, but that's the only reason. I've been happily surprised how quickly Diarra has slotted in. Diarra 's a class player, but the team definitely loses some steam when Murphy is off the pitch.
I think Our midfield is good enough but the player I would love to have above all others is Kompany. Great defender and great Captain.
The thought of Brede and Kompany together! We'd never concede, that would be as good a pairing as there is in the premier league
