Going to the topic about 6pm. I live about 40mins train from London and didnt get home till 12:30am.

Bit of a joke really, police did well to move the fans along as quickly as they could on Wembley walk but general train time issues and offer factors did my nut in

This. So sad but so true. I just got back from 2 weeks in France on Saturday (mum and dad live over there) and say what you like about the froggies but I did not see a single soul that even came remotely close to some of the scum we have over here. So many things are so much better on the continent and we just sit here and take it while ****ers like these bring everything down around them. Also, if you read The Sun, stop it (maybe try the guardian or something), and see if your outlook changes <whistle>

im not excusing them, however, drinking all day in a game that was moved due to Liverpool's refusal to play on the 15th was a cocktail for disaster. they are mindless idiots (the people who chanted), but it's stupid that we should have to hold a minute's silence at a chelsea vs tottenham game for hillsborough when we don't do it for any other disaster.

i don't hold it against Liverpool at all for holding memorial services for their own lost ones, but their grief shouldn't be forced upon us. hillsborough was a terrible tragedy and I'm sure every fan in world football was shocked by it at the time, but 23 years on it should only be liverpool fans mourning it.

What? Why in a million years WOULD you hold it against them? What a bizarre thing to say.

Its a football related tragedy. As is the young italian lad who died. Your not being asked to mourn it, simply show a tiny amount of respect for the memory of 96 people who died back then, and a footballer who died last week playing the game you love to watch.

30 tiny bloody seconds of silence asked to show respect for each event. Less than the time it took you to come here and write a post complaining about it. And you feel entitled enough to suggest you are being put upon in some great way by this? Despite your comments that the people singing hateful bile were mindless, you show equally little understanding of the belief in basic human civility underpinning a simple request for a modicum of dignity and reflection.

But don't worry, these things aren't compulsory, as a good number of Chelsea fans showed. The reaction from everyone else towards them though suggests most people are capable of understanding why sacrificing 60 seconds of their time (in which they are required to do absolutely nothing) is a decent thing to do, and why refusing to do so is the behaviour of self entitled morons.

im sorry DL, still pretty angry by the actions of the singers yesterday. I just can't believe we've got to a point where respect for the dead is seen as an affront to peoples 'personal rights'. What a horrible world that is.

battersea, i may have worded that wrongly and apologies for offending. I meant liverpool are doing the right thing by holding a memorial service

and let me make myself abundantly clear, I loathe the people who sang that horrible crap during the minute's silence and im ashamed to share the club i support with them. im not making any excuses whatsoever for what they did.

i stand by the rest of my post though, i am entitled to my opinion as much as you are yours

I work with kids with learning disabilities, all of whom are very into football. Many of them support Chelsea, but all of them, even those with severe autism who struggle to empathise with others emotions, couldn't understand why anyone would be disrespectful in that way. It took me a good 30 minutes to try and explain it without using language inappropriate for the audience, and i'm still not sure they were happy with my answer.

The belief that everyone is entitled to an opinion and that therefore seemingly all are equal is not a valid assumption. I can happily be of the opinion that the world is flat, but that doesn't mean my opinion is a valid as one that says it isn't. If you were a 15 yr old voicing his teenage self importance i wouldn't have reacted to it, but you're a 20yr old man.

The facts informing your opinion are misconstrued. You aren't being forced to share in their grief. That's not the point of a minutes silence. And just because you weren't directly involved in the event doesn't mean you can show civility in acknowledging it. I had no part in WW1 or WW2 but i still give a minute of my time on memorial day to respect the loss of life, and what it lead to.
If you can't think of a reason why it has anything to do with you, how about the fact that it, along with other disasters highlighted the dangers of football stadiums, have brought about safety changes that allow you to enjoy the game you love with less risk to you life now?

Finally this has nothing to do with Clubs. This is people. What ever you opinion of Liverpool fans actions at Heysel, the people who died at Hillsborough are separate from that. Both tragedies should be respected. And if i was at a belgium game that asked for my cooperation in a minutes remembrance i would give that gladly to.

i truly think youve misunderstood my point. I have been at many football matches where minutes silence have been held and never disrespected it, if you read my last comment youll see that i condemn those who made a mockery of a serious situation yesterday. my problem is what makes hillsborough more important than other disasters that we don't hold silences for such as ibrox, munich, matthew harding, heysel, bradford city fire, the list goes on. your second paragraph is a totally different kettle of fish, it is a fact that the world is round and not flat, this is completely a matter of opinion.

when i say 'forced to share their grief' i don't mean the minutes silence, i mean that we had to play on a day to suit the fa because of liverpool's refusal to play on the 15th, now i understand completely liverpool's refusal of playing on that date but it shouldn't affect any other club's playing schedule.

you make out like i don't respect the hillsborough disaster, i do.

Battersea, it's sad really. It upset me deeply. Sadly I knew once the FA announced a minute of silence would take place (on a Sunday 6pm kick off) there would be a mindless minority that wouldn't observe it.

Football is the only sport that brings out this kind of tribalism.

We expect better than this, and the anger shown on these boards should show anyone with a brain that it is NOT typical at all. Unfortunately rock ape morons don't all live in the same place, they're country wide.
