I think the like and dislike system does effect the rep system, but I believe it may be toned down to have less of an effect than actual rep.
Right, it seems that disliking a post does nothing to your rep where as liking a post does add to their rep. I think Mick's changing it to make it less in your face tonight, probably putting the buttons without text in the bar below the avatars.
