Remember your series of uncompromising anti-Taarabt monologues Telf... People were thinking you were drunk - but they were far too articulate for that! Just as you'd finished one, you were back at it with another... half the night long as I recall. Amazing sequence. See what you mean about energy lost!
Col..how would / do you determine who is our best player then? goals scored? assists? defending? creativity or consistancy? would be intrested to know?
Mate, the old mike basset mentality always seem to be a bit of a get out to me for people who just dont agree.. Secondly, i try to just post facts or as close to it, and dont bother going down the Clive Whittingham road, by making every post a long drawn out story. Sorry if that appears scattered to you, but maybe my lack of literary prowess can be the cause of that. FYI..no-where on any board EVER wil you see that i have praised or ever wanted anything to do with SWP. Flyer and Judo can back that up and you can check every post i've made in the last couple of years. I never liked SWP before he went to Chels, so i aint going to rate him now!! I use the comparisons of Rooney, Bergkamp because they are great skillfull players. At present, tarbs is just a skillfull player. I obviously can see that he has skill and talent but i dont know if he can get the rest of his game and mentality sorted out? Its not enough to just be skillfull in this league is it? again, the Championship is filled with skillfull players who can have a great game every now and again. My comment about the local park was meant to reflact the fact that, if you wee to go to Yeading or Harrow borough and boot a football 20 metres up in the air..most of the players could probably trap it, it would be anything special. does that make sense? Yes, i totally agree with you that he is young and will (hopefully) improve, but we've all seen a lot of good players fall by the wayside haven't we. I cant agree with the patience thing, this guy has had more help, patience, molly coddling and chances than the whole team combined. Just what do we have to do to make him feel happy and get him playing....Daddy NW couldnt do it, Arry couldn't do it...can MH? only time will tell. I do agree that if we are to get out of this mess we are in, we need Adel (and the rest of the team ) to be at the top of thier games and on form Finally, its not a case of disliking Adel personally. how can I?, I've never met the guy and generally dont believe much written about most players. I'd be lie-ing if i said i was happy about the PSG issue though. I posted pre season that I personally didnt think Adel could or would cut it this season in the Prem. I got shot down, abused and called just about everything on various message boards. I said (i thought) he wasn't good enough ! A lot of those posters have swapped opinions, but I for 1 still believe that, and every fact, stat or wha ever you choose to use has backed that up. Now, I'm not saying he cant become better but not so sure of great (?). He has; at present; a good team behind him, he has changed his game for the better btu still lacks the concentration and maturity some times. Maybe next season or the one after he will become the player that everyone says he is now. Problem is mate, we dont have that time or luxury right now. We cant afford to carry anyone for the last 5 games. Hope that makes sense..and for the record I have no idea why MH changed a winning team after Swansea..baffles me
I think this wins it. Col tried and then Damage upped the ante but there's no arguing with this logic. All the Taarabt worshipers must now wake up and smell the coffee.
For me it's not a case of Adel Taarabt's hot or he's not - or what he did last season or this. It's simply a matter of him being our only creative midfield player and we need him to provide some assists as they say, and smack some shots home. If and when he does that convincingly, he'll be everyone's hero and if he doesn't, he won't and people will respond accordingly. As our creative mid, I think he's improving all the time. Whether he's on form or not, he worries defenders into committing themselves and compromising positional discipline. The odd thing is that he's now twice the player he was last year. He's a lot fitter and no longer lazy. He's nothing like as selfish or arrogant in his game and regularly tracks back and adds to the defence. He'll as soon play the simple pass and move, as speculate with those step overs of his or play the long searching passes to his mate Mackie. Sure he still over does things at times and ends up flailing on his arse but that's just Adel. Even the coimmentators know him for what he is. He's the eternal enigma that keeps us all: team mates, opponents, the gaffer, neutrals and no doubt even himself, guessing - but all the time he's still doing a job for us. He's a controversial character, flawed genius and overgrown kid all wrapped up in one. The fez celebration was a perfect metaphore for a kindred spirit from another time. Tommy Cooper and Adel Taarabt as the odd couple of wannabe magicians adorning their respective stages, doing tricks that sometimes work and often times don't. If only Adel realised the similarities, I'm sure he'd be winning our approval with a 'ha ha, just like that!' after every misadventure!! Personally I can't understand how any of you can get so intransigent about our talisman. It's not a simple matter of he's perfect or he's not. He's ALL things to all men and I for one reserve the right to cheer when he gets things right and moan and groan when it goes tits up.
Great post Brixton. He is a flawed genius and often incredibly frustrating but he is our flawed genius and I for one want to stay at our club.
I can't agree that NW and MH have not got Adel playing - look at what Adel did under NW in the Chanpionship last season, you only got to look at the stats! He also did well the first month or two of this season - had about 6 in the woodwork I believe, if a few had gone in he would have been a PL superstar! MH has also managed to get Adel working harder, defending, playing more responsibly as a team player, and he looks fitter than I've ever seen him. This has evidently been achieved at the loss of some of his creative edge, but this can return. Adel can still make a big contribution for us this season - I'm looking forward to seeing play with Cisse again Saturday!
If you really see him as nothing more than a skilful player and compare what he can do with a ball to someone trapping a ball kicked in the air then that shows how irrational your thinking is. You said pre-season after the outstanding year Adel had had that he wasn’t good enough to perform in a league where regular players include Heskey, SWP and Danny Gabbidon?! That shows how made up your mind is about him. You still don’t seem to be over the fact you say you got “shot down, abused and called just about everything”. Sounds to me like your still a bit sensitive and upset about this and now look for any opportunity to criticise him in order to justify your earlier opinions. Without opening up old issues that help explain Adel’s poor early season form. Please explain how what about Adel’s performnces since Hughes come in that doesn’t indicate he is more than good enough for this level? Personally I believe along with Mackie Adel has been or most consistent performer since Hughes has come in. Only explanation for him to be criticised again goes back to you Mike Basset types looking for any excuse to dig up old grievances and criticise a player that offends your old school out of date football opinions.
Mate, to be honest you aint ever going to agree with me and my "old school out of date opinions" are you? I'm not sure what the old school bit is but you obviously have some kind of bee in your bonnet about it/ Again my mind is not made up about the future but you obviously didnt read that bit....? Without bothering to answer it all over again, Its 8pm here, I'm watching Top gear and eating my dinner. if i continue to reply I'll be eating my breakfast. I fully respect your idea's and belief in adel and his performances. i aint going to change your mind and visa versa.... Lets agree to disagree, because to be honest I just cant be arsed. Would like to know what you mean by "old shcool & out of date" But if it prolongs this agony then please dont bother. You stick to your opinions mate and Me and Mike Basset are of down the pub for a drink..tooddllee doo!
Sorry to interrupt what feels like a private conversation. In the autumn Adel drove me round the bend with his lacklustre performances and seeming attitude. I was happy when he was dropped. Since then I have had a 180 degree turn. It was boring without him. He's the type of player I watch football for - able to do things which delight and surprise, genuine entertainment. Would have loved some more end product, but can't see anybody else in our squad with his ability, even if he hasn't fully lived up to it in the Prem. I won't ever love him the way I did Marsh, Bowles and even Stainrod, but I dread not having someone like him in the team. If you believe results and not style are the only important thing, we could do without him and do a Stoke, who don't need any real creative players. But players like him are essential to play the QPR way.
mate i totally agree with that. that is why i spent so many hours arguing with Flyer on our old board, that La Liga was better than the prem. i love the skill and technical ability of thier players. Who doesnt enjoy watching Barca etc... Like i said I spent manymany hours arguing with Flyer about this. ths is what confuses me and makes me wonder what Damage means by out dated old school? No one can deny how good tarbs was last year, he was magnificent, but I personally dont think he's had a good season. Again without re-post loads of facts it up to people to make thier own decisions. Maybe he can become as good as some of our legends, I dont know nor does nyone else. I can only comment on what i've seen and not the future. again (4th time now) he has massively improved and changed his game and he is our MOST CREATIVE player without a doubt. Like you SB. I've had manty coversations with people about AT and I've come to realise that Its a waste of time. Very few agree and most end up agreeing to disagree without much progress or positiveness coming out of the conversation. So I'm out of this one. I'll go back to just following as i dont think anyones getting anywhere. Now I'm off for a pint. Keep the faith....we may just do it !
Agree to disagree seems like the best option. Completely agree with SB's comments and lets hope Adel serves up a few dishes of humble pie for Queenslander and Swords between now and end of the season.
Well, if both Queenslander and Mr Damage agree with me, either I have perfected the art of diplomacy to the point of blandness or should work as a peacekeeper for the UN.
